Gerry Lopez was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, he grew up in Honolulu East, Oahu, Hawaii. Gerry Lopez is a cool surfer who once won the Hawaii State Surfers Champion at the age of 14. Gerry Lopez with his friend Rory Russel once exposed and explored Indonesia as a surfing destination. It starts at Uluwatu Bali, and proceeds to the famous surfers with its g-land waves.
Gerry recounted his experience in the G-land, "I spent a lot of time surfing in Indonesia, especially G-Land, a long distance on the edge of Alas Purwo National Park, at the southeastern tip of Java, relatively far from civilization. In the mid to late 1970s , We were allowed to build a temporary camp with some bamboo tree houses and a shack for cooking. Lack of human presence made the beach completely pure. We brought our drinking water into glass bottles, the only container available at the time. The beautiful G-Land wave never seems to change and we are happy to explore it for the next 20 years."
