G-LAND ... The point came alive. G-Land had returned to it's loftily fabled status after being absent for a long enough time. The hiatus was over and with it came some clear power. We've had power in the past swells, but TODAY there were sizable barrels running Speed Reef. I'd have to make the claim on today being one of the better Speedies days this season. I'd love to incorporate Launching Pad into that statement, especially cause i love taking off from here, but i can't. Pad was strange, big peaks that would run straight into Speedies with no walls to them, forcing us to ride the bronco whitewater until it would join at the seam. But then the seam would rip off down the reef, giving plenty of guys the opportunity to get the best tube of their life, so far!
But i can't leave Moneytrees outta the experience, eventhough there wasn't much human traffic going on up there. Still though, it was breaking nicely, peeling off with some beautifully maintained facial transitions. You know those ones if you think about Moneys running towards you and it's not barreling, but the next best thing. You'd be sweeping long, smooth strokes of style up and down the face with your boards. Naturally, it started to get hollower as the tide receded, but not many guys on it at all, probably due to satiation saturation from Speedies.
Double to Triple overhead and great winds!!!
The Surftime Magazine Crew that came in yesterday did well on their call to be here. Let's see...2 organizers, 3 photographers, 2 videographers, 7 indo pro's, 1 californian pro, and then us. It was the Surftime 2nd Annual Put Up or Shut Up Contest. Not really a normal contest format at all. In fact it wasn't any different than being at your local beach and everyone claiming who surfed the best throughout the entire session. No jersey's, no horns, no chicks on the beach!!! You put into the pot, you can win. It's always interesting to watch how stories flow and grow in severity. Plenty of guys seems almost stressed by the news that a special boat was bringing in this crew. In the end, you wouldn't have known a competition was going on if you didn't have a heads up.
Like i always promise after some proper swell, i"ll post some photos. I'll apologize upfront for testing your patience over these next "period of time!" AND BRING SOME RUBBER...it's still unpleasantly chilled. A sunset session with offshore still blowing and i'd maybe even want a proper 3mm full suit to keep my forearms warms as well.
