G-Land once again looked quite nice at 6am when I went down and checked. Glassy, clean, 3-5ft sets (6-10ft faces) were going all the way down to Launching Pads and Speedies. So I nailed back a quick breakfast, and just after 7am was down on the beach ready to paddle out with my two pals Lukey & Johnson. Unfortunately as I came down the last track out of the camp I could smell a faint whiff of a dirty onshore. Sure enough, it was a light sea breeze once I got down there, ruining 90% plus of the potential barrels! Gutted! So since I was all amped on the Speedies session, I went back to my room and did some cleaning and reading and checked the net to see the forecast had changed again to light NW all day today.
At 11am on the high outgoing tide I took a few guests down to Tigertracks and despite the light onshore it was super fun. The wind even died out to nothing for quite some time, and there was some fun 2-3ft hot dog waves. Caught about 30 waves in 2 hours and was very satisfied at the end when Blacky came to pick us up in the boat.
By 2pm a dirty strong NNW wind had come up, completely opposite to what G-Land likes, and making the waves the complete opposite of a world class reef break. White caps from the wind were funneling into the waves making them so bumpy and horrible that the great overhead swell still running was not worth even trying to surf. That window when I was at Tigertracks and walking back from the boat channel afterwards, that 2 hours of light wind was the time to hit it if any.
