G-Land was once again ruined this morning by a horrible NE wind that turned straight N and NW onshore. Awesome swell running down the reef at solid 6ft (double overhead), but hideous chops coming up the faces and guys getting axed left right and center. Why were they out there? Well at 7am and before, it looked really nice, super glassy, and clean. So by the time people checked it, had breakfast, and got out there, it then turned to custard. What a bummer. Full Pad to Speedies sets just obliterated by a wind from hell.
After lunch the wind started to glass off, and all afternoon from 2pm onwards it was super still. Low tide was at 3pm at a 0.3m, and around this time people started to get out there to make the most of the smooth conditions. The swell had held its size and there was some good sized lumps coming down the reef! I didn't see one barrel ridden, however at 5pm one guy got a hell backhand barrel apparently. I did see waves that could be barrel ridden, although a lot of those were clamping without the offshore wind. Still, after the horrible morning conditions, it was a relief to most, and a group of 10-15 punters enjoyed themselves thoroughly spread out across Money Trees with consistent sets for all.
I ended up having a full rest day, reading, cruising, and enjoying immensely my tuna mango salad dinner!
