Earthquake/Tsunami off of South Pagai Island, Mentawai last night.  You can click the link for the post.

G-LAND ... feels a bit strange to write up a positive report when such a negative scenario just went down up in the Mentawai.   But i'll write it like it was.  It was real fun today once again with the swell keeping us company from yesterday.  Another clean and crisp morning with quality waves running the reef from dawn on and sets still around 8-10 foot on the face.  Kongs through Speedies was working and that's a long stretch of reef...about 2 kilometers.

2.1 meter high at 11:00 and swell bumping up on Launching Pad pretty much most of the day.  But the higher tide range had better form...naturally...and some beautiful waves sending us into Speedies for a few hours.  Looking up at Money's was enticing during the lulls, but every time I decided to start the paddle, I couldn't get too far before a set would finally arrive.  But I got to watch a handful of solid sets run the reef up there and pipe through a few of the sections.  Speedies was piping better!!!

I wished my camera was on me while I was paddling back to shore through the lagoon.   Minus about 1 hour, the day was quality.  And during that hour, a dark  squall came through and unloaded a solid amount of water.  The squall went into a violent dump and quarter-pounders were falling, hitting the water's surface and bouncing back up about four-fingers high.  The beach in the background was "fogged in" by the density of all the rain filling in the lower atmosphere and it was pretty refreshing to feel the saltwater wash off my face.  Just one of those moments here when nature becomes more apparent than normal and everything is hyper-sensational.

Another beautiful, but subtly schizophrenic day in Taman Nasional Alas Purwo!!!
