G-LAND ... My last thought from yesterday's post...sandwiched together with the first thought gave me the idea to get Pak Salim from the boat channel and go for a cruise around Blambangan's tip. His cukung (dugout outrigger) can't be overloaded with people for a handful of reasons...the most weighted reason being a crowd isn't at the heart of the idea. Another reason would be all the breaches in his hull squirting water into the carved out tree. After motoring for about 45 minutes, we arrived at the targeted wave...there are plenty of surfable reef formations on the south coast. I'm not writing about Reverse G...that's 26 km. from the tip. So we got to where i thought would be worth checking and the fog just let up enough for Salim and i to get a geographic reference. By the time we jumped, we could not see more than 100 feet and really just had to go off the sounds of breaking waves. 30 minutes of doubt, thinking we may be too far west finally disappeared. The fog slowly lifted and i could tell we were right where we should have been.
A few feet larger than what was rounding the point and breaking through Kongs and Fan Palms and those few extra feet were welcomed by us all. The conditions stay clean and fun for the 2+ hours that we surfed. Time to head back and seemed like it was perfect timing since the wind started to come up just as we were coming around the point. So myself and one other, jumped off again, making sure to hop in on the other side of the long-shaft propeller and i didn't come onto land for another 3 hours. Fan Palms was real good fun....sometimes a couple few overhead, smooth, clean, and FUN!!! Slept most of the day after that...
The water chilled back down again, losing for sure a few degrees. So keep that rubber in your bag if you're coming over soon. On the other side of that piece of info...the air has been warming up and for sure more than just a few degrees. So i guess more rubber and less clothes. Sounds like a jungle rave, but that it is not!!!
