G-LAND ... So i realized today...the 17th...that on the 15th, when the swell began to start its ascent upwards in size, was 1 month marker since we had a swell!!! There has been a few days TOTAL in the past month with some short lived pulses, something like a couple feet overhead. But those were pulses that only lasted for 1 day and then small again for awhile before the next pulse for a day made an appearance. That swell from the middle of October was solid and lasted for about a week. And today was the 3rd day straight of waves. Beautifully enough, i can hear the swell right now reverberating off the ceramic roof tiles. So if our run of recent good fortune continues, we'll be surfing well overhead surf tomorrow again.
Yesterday was a significant jump up from the 15th. Sets were common and easy 10 foot faces. Kongs, which peeled off unridden the entire day would have been double overhead for sure. But since there's only 9 of us riding these waves, there's no need to venture off upreef to be alone. Between the Ledge, Money Trees, and Inside Pad existed the opportunity to be all alone. The winds stayed pretty calm for the 1st half of the day and proper offshores made a late arrival, starting to blow around 2 o'clock. But it was about as fun as you would imagine before the winds came up. And naturally all the better when the wind started its push against the waves.
Today, the 17th, started out looking real nice. With a little more presence downreef at Speedies on the lower tide, it seemed like a good thing to wait out the morning low and see what would be going on down there at the 1:30 high... 1.8 meters. Cole, Dennis, and Phil went for an early morning walk down to Tigertracks and at 1o, Derek, Mike, and i took the panga down there for a look. The tide was just getting good for there and even if it was shot, the adventurers would appreciate the ride back. Walk...surf...walk to Tigertracks is a mission. Ended up being real fun. Dennis and Phil were lining up some real long lefts at Tiger 2's and we hung on the peak, getting should to head high rippers. Real good fun. We burned back up to the boat harbor to get a quick lunch and paddle out front.
10-12 foot faces and clean, smooth Moneys. Speedies never really came together. There were some waves down there...i gave it over an hour to really check it out....but Money's and Fang were definitely the better sections to be on. Mostly fun quality waves running the reef. Every so rarely a good barrel would set up, but more carvable than anything else.
With 9 of us out here, good quality waves and winds, and warm, sunny days...we have a lot to be thankful for!!!
