G-LAND ... So today put the saying "if the volcanoes are showing in the morning, then the winds are gonna be onshore" to a challenge. In fact, by about 10:30, the entire coastline from the lowlands right on up to the peaks of Raung, Ijen, and Baluran were unobstructed by and clouds or atmospheric haze. It was an impressive view all day long. And the winds were going offshore all day long.
The swell dropped off from the past 2 days of good sized waves. We were getting about 10 foot faces out front max and upreef from Fan Palms through Kongs was a little bigger. Really fun day of surfing with crisp, clean waves that were perfect for those that wanted to surf rippable G-Land. Even still, there were some barrels, just not as predictable as they are with more size. But i did see this one that just sticks out in my mind right now. Smallish Ledge wave that really pressed up off the reef and threw out wider than it was tall. The guy set up into the barrel after a not-so-challenging as they can be Ledge take off, then just continued on down the line so nicely situated into a womb of a pocket as the wave actually grew in width until he came out cleanly and for sure more stoked than i was. Long sentence = long barrel when it comes to my writing style.
