Hi there y'all, I'm Jarred Hancox and todays my first day back in G-Land since last year. After 2 and a half weeks straight surfing the Bukit everyday (namely Uluwatu), I knew I was in for a big change of scenery. Noise, crowds, traffic, progress, construction etc are now replaced with peace, calmness, uncrowded lineups, and a very natural environment.
Some progress has been made here also however, and I'm very impressed at the new bread system. In the mornings now at breakfast time there is all this new fresh bread that guests can take at their own leisure to go with their eggs etc, and toasters to control how toasted you desire the bread. And amazing tasting bread!! Unreal. The lunch menu is now more like its glorious state of 08/09 where you can choose from many different meals, and the dinners are only nicer if anything.
Was a perfect day to come across in the fast boat, not much wind, a very small swell, and only 5 of us on the boat. So seeing the very small waves coming past the point I was thinking maybe I would not surf today. After lunch I went down and practiced English with some visiting English students from Banyuwangi, and was seeing some easily head high sets up by Kongs. Almost forgot that the tiniest bump in swell can give nice sized sets at this swell magnet of a point.
So I did get wet in the afternoon at Fan Palms, getting some nice 3ft (slight overhead) sets, light offshore, riding a 5'9... this year I'm experimenting with riding smaller boards. Was awesome to ride the 5'9 x 18 1/2, compared to my shortboard last year 6'0 x 18 1/8.
