G-Land Bobby's Surf Camp surf report is a bit late for this day, due to me planning on making it after the full moon dance party. But after a few too many Bintangs and a lot of dancing, the last thing I could do was type a report, the only thing I could think of was to crash! The Full Moon dance party was super fun, the name is Gandrung. The Gandrung consists of a band playing some interesting looking instruments, and 3 beautiful female traditional dancers. And all the guests get to take turns dancing the magical Banyuwangi dance with them.
G-Land Surf was about 3-4ft earlier in the morning, then a sea breeze came up, and then by the time it went offshore right on high tide, the waves dropped right off! 2-3ft waves mostly, hugging the reef though and making for a few sucky little barrels. I ended up having a super fun surf. Although my hips and groin are still a bit sore from getting compressed in a Ledge barrel the day before. The crowd was spread out through Kongs & Money Trees, it was a really moderate crowd.
The water in G-Land has got so cold now! OK if your reading this from a southern hemisphere winter, your probably heckling me, but seriously it is 18-20 degrees maximum! Compared to 26-28 degrees celcius in May & June.. So most people just had a wetsuit jacket on, and froze. I was wearing a 2mm full length XCEL steamer, super flexible, and it kept me at a nice temperature. Not even too hot wearing a steamer in G-Land right now! So if your coming over in the next month or 2, I recommend you bring at least a springsuit!
