G-Land still had a fair amount of swell still showing this morning. I was up at 5:30am, and jumped on my MotoX bike and shot down to Tigertracks for a quick surf, as I was soon to get on the fast boat back to Bali, to prepare for the Canggu contest tomorrow morning. Tiger's was headhigh, but a bit of morning sickness. Some sets were bigger and closed out.
Our G-Land Express boat was really put to the test on the ride back. Waiting on the beach, I seen a solid head high set break through Quiksilvers and Chickens, and once on the boat there were 6ft sets coming through Money Trees and Launching Pads with only a small crew out. In the straight between Bali and Java the wind was strong, and she was pretty rough going! Still, we made it in under 3hours, so that was all good.
On the incoming tide the G-Land Surf came back up a bit, even the odd 8ft set showed itself! As for me, I was expecting to see something big at Kuta Reef coming in on the boat, but it was 2-3ft?!
G-Land Bobby's Surf Camp celebrated Independence Day today. Independence Day was in 1945 when the Indonesian people banded together and took back their independence from the Dutch who had attempted to colonise them for the previous 345 years! So its a special day for all Indonesians, and tourists can also appreciate it, for without independence it just wouldn't be the special place it is.
So through the evening there was numerous contests held, such as climbing up a fake tree which had a prize of 1 week free in superior. A group from NSW, Australia, cleaned up the other good prizes. But nobody could conquer the tree! Its a very hard tree to climb. There was also fishing into a Bintang bottle, which Mitchell won. Daniel won 'Place Match in the beer bottle' comp, and like Mitchell they both got 3 days free extension in Standard. Sloth won the walking with a marble on a teaspoon, and got the same prize too. Chad from NSW got 5 Bintangs and a Tshirt for his speed at eating crackers. Alot of the crew were well fueled with Bintang, and drums and music were getting played, yelling and cheering going on, and everyone had great fun night.
