G-Land Surf started off looking like a lot of potential. Swell had risen a bit, and was 3-4ft and a perfect offshore breeze blowing by 7am. Possibly before sunrise there was a very light bit of rain, and the remaining dark clouds were making me suspicious however. Sure enough by 11am the wind had gone variable, the swell was no bigger than 7am, but there was still some fun waves being had. Crowd was not too bad today either.
Water temp is reasonably cold, many people noting they were cold today and yesterday. I didn't notice but I was in my 2mm Steamer! My surf was early afternoon Fan Palm, Ledge and Money Trees, the sets never really getting over 4ft, but still plenty of punch in them, and my 5'10 quad fin was feeling a bit small at times. The wind never went a proper offshore while I was out, nor did it later in the afternoon. Still very clean, but a lot of barrels that could have been were not what they would have been with a trade on it.
The swell jacked a bit more late in the day with the super low 0.1m tide, and there was up to 10 guys out trying to surf the Ledge. Mostly I seen guys getting pitched on the 4-5ft set waves the Ledge was throwing up. Money Trees rattled off some great looking sets with no one at the Ledge realising. The bombie even broke on a couple sets... I'm hearing rumours of a lot of good surfers turning up for this swell in G-Land, so we shall see what happens. Plenty of charging that will be for sure. No doubt everyone will be pushing the limits, so hopefully there isn't anything to dangerous going on and nobody gets hurt bad.
Tomorrow afternoon is independence day in Indonesia. To celebrate first off we have a challenging tree climbing game, where a 8m+ tree trunk is painted up with oil, and teams of people have to try scale the whole thing to get to the top to snatch a prize. That will be entertaining! 3:30pm tomorrow.
