G-LAND ... It's about time i put something up on this report. I haven't been out here that long, coming into camp on the 25th, but i still needed a little time before the motivation to sit in front of the computer and share some thoughts set it . This is Michael. And so, WELCOME BACK to the daily feed, well most of the time daily.
So here's a little relay of the stories i've been hearing from early season surfers. We've been operating since the beginning of March, but not too much was going on until the start of April. The winds were predominantly wet season trades and the swells weren't anything of the classic quality through March. But i really haven't heard too much about March so i can't say for sure. I don't think there were that many gamblers making it out here early on. The first pr0per swell came in the 1st week of April, solid in size and the perfect direction to bring life into Launching Pad/Speedies. The winds had already come good by the end of March, but this swell was matched up with bad winds. The next solid swell came in the 3rd week of the month, but the same wind scenario happened again. And now, the 28th of April, as we started off the day looking at a new swell, it was looking like the same pattern was gonna continue. Yesterday blew real strong onshore all day long and that seemed like an unfortunate indicator.
But there's gonna be some positivity to the end of this report. As the swell was starting to get up to double overhead and pretty much every section of the reef other than the Ledge was surfable, the winds slowly began to back off as the day marched onward. By about 1 o'clock, the winds backed right down to non-existent and even a few light puffs of E wind came off the jungle for about an hour. Things were looking real nice and even some hollow sections were surprising us with their cameo appearances. We finished off the day with a little party out front and went back into the bar to celebrate Harry's 62nd birthday. Mellow party since being a health aficionado doesn't go well with drinking the drink.
