G-LAND ... Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan!!! Happy Independence Day as it would be... Come this day back in 1945, the Indonesian National Revolution set in pen a proclamation to the Dutch East Indies rulers and went into war for just over 4 years to achieve their freedom.
Everyone was partying today with some pretty classic events going on to celebrate the day. The potato sack race didn't give anyone a chance to stop laughing. We ran this from the guard shack towards the G-Land archway and 4 hoppers at a time. Not enough space through that alleyway for 4. You gotta imagine some pretty hungry competitors lined up like they're waiting for the green light to hit and pop the clutch on their top-fuel dragsters. Only they were running their snail-mobiles, feet way behind their bobbing heads. 1 thing can happen when your that off axis...straight onto your face. The pole climbing pretty much put all of us foreigners into a jaw-dropped stupor at how gnarly this event was. The local boys took everything!!! The paddle race didn't happen since the event was just too easily squashed by the high-tide wave conditions running the reef. Well, it did happen but it was mostly all local boys, minus 2 guests that were passing by. I was picturing an all-out effort by all the guests, but it was really just the exact opposite. And i'm picturing flat days to come so i hope the opposite materializes as well...
Surf was 10 foot faces out front and everything getting a chance to work. Are you getting tired of reading the same thing? Great conditions on the wind and even the water starting to get intermixed with some warm patches. But it's still chilled so BRING SOME RUBBER. Got a lucky session down at Inside Pad with only few other surfers and right in line with a good hour long pulse. We were all hooting and whistling for each other and that's the way you'd want it....right???
