G-Land was possibly the smallest I have ever seen it today. I reckon if I added up all my time here, it would be around 2 years. And this day, is right up there with the smallest of the smallest. Early in the morning as I sat on the beach watching, there was a strange loud sound, I thought it was rain out to sea, but it was infact the tiny wave breaking onto the dry low tide reef! Even Kongs you would have been lucky to get a wave over knee high. Some guests took out the longboards and SUP and rode a few bumps.
So what else to do? Well 6 guests went around to the South coast with local fisherman Salim. They left at sunrise and got back late morning. Surfing a peak that was catching some 2ft sets. So they scored for such a flat day... Also, 4 guests went on the Grandong truck on a jungle adventure to a special Cave, viewing tower for animals and a temple. That took up all of their afternoon.
I tried to follow them on my motorbike a couple hours later, but it was playing up a bit. So just stopped at Tigertracks to enjoy the peaceful beautiful beach all too myself. Took a swim, and then went back to camp for a nap and finished up packing for the season. Likely I'm back to Bali tomorrow morning, and Michael should be back in camp on the boat tomorrow too.
2011 has been a good year, not much rain, a lot of swell, a lot of good waves and a lot of good barrels. Thanks to Bobby and all the staff for making this whole camp and operation happen, and to all the guests who came and enjoyed their time here and all my friends I made and already made friends who came and enjoyed their time in G-Land with me too, and perhaps we will all meet again next season and get some world class waves at the best Wave in the world at the best surf camp Bobby's!
