G-Land Bobby's Surf Camp had 30 people leaving today including all the pro's and photographers, and 14 new guests come of which most of whom are first timers to G-Land. However, one couple is here, Herbert & Ines, and the husband last came in 1979! Their daughter is none other than former women's world champ Sofia Mulanovich, which I found out when we got talking and they said they were friends with the Hareb family from my home town (Paige Hareb is the Taranaki girl who is on the Womens World Tour).
The swell dropped considerably over night. I thought it would have still been 6ft, but it was mostly 3-4ft all day, with the odd 5fter here and there. The wind came through by 9am, and it was a lot cleaner than the past 2 days, although not as good as on the 17th. There was a few waves at Speedies on the high tide, mostly 2-3fters that if you got the right one would offer up a really nice shack. The noon high tide had the biggest crowd, then after 3pm the crowd was very thin with only maybe a handful of people out Money Trees and the Ledge getting some fun ones. My friend Ryan Watts went out and got a beauty off the Ledge late in the day.
Water is still cold, my thin steamer just right again. Don't know how guys can surf in just boardies and no wetsuit at the moment here. I wouldn't be able to handle it! Especially with the cool offshore wind on the wet skin.
