G-Land Bobby's Surf Camp had a big influx of guests today. 40 newcomers infact! With less than 20 leaving, the camp is full capacity until tomorrow when a special trip of 10+ Brazillians leave on the fast boat. They've been a great crew of guys & gals while they've been here. Arriving today was a big Hawaiian contingent, including camp regulars such as Ernie, Ed, Mike & Mika Akima, and a whole lot of their friends. As well as many familiar faces from Australia, and a couple of fresh Kiwi faces.
Every 3rd morning the surf guide is tied up for a few hours with the new guests changeover. Today was unfortunate for me to be that 3rd day! I checked the surf at 7am... not 1 person out, and a super clean near sheet glass lite offshore look about it, with a 4-5ft set rocking through Money Trees!! The line-up remained near empty for at least 2 hours, unbelievable - although come to think about it, not a super uncommon thing to happen in the magical G-Land world. Needless to say I was a bit bummed at not being able to get out there right then and there. Was cool to see many old friends and familiar faces come into camp however... I got out there finally about 11am, the sets creeping more and more up the reef toward Fan Palm with the tide draining...
Crowd was not TOO BAD considering there's near 80 people in camp right now. The other camps have low numbers so that would explain the reasonably tame crowd. Lots of crew today very happy at getting some quality waves and tubes... for some of them was the best G-Land they had seen (but it does get a lot better), and actually Mike Akima told me he got his best ever G-Land barrel today! He just found that sick, wide, wedgey one...
Few tales of the odd good tube at the Ledge on the arvo 4pm 0.2m tide... but not a lot of them.
Epic dinner tonight with Fillet Fish in Mushroom cream sauce, with Kumara (sweet potato) and veges. Then a chocolate pancake. Mmmm... And now I'm off to the beach to check out our Full Moon Dance party "Gandrung" - with tradition music and female dancers for the guests and staff to dance with... should be a fun night 🙂
