G-Land still was maintaining some size today but without that angry appetite for destruction look about it. Swells hitting the reef nicely early, but wind was still a bit variable, yet I knew there was gonna be some nice waves once that trade kicked in.
Camp numbers dropped to about 30 today, the lowest all September. So good for uncrowdness. My friends from Gisborne, New Zealand, arrived this morning. Father and son, Tom & Adam Grimson. Adam is only 15 and is one of the top young groms from NZ, so the lil goofyfooter is fizzing at the worlds possibly best left hander!
By 10am the trade was up, the sun out, and some great waves coming through in the 4-5ft range. Even the occasional 6ft bomb (double overhead). A few strays getting down to the Speedies end, but most at Money Trees. I got 2 exceptionally good Tree waves that offered multiple barrel sections with easy set-ups. Stoked on them.
The afternoon went full glass and the barrels weren't quite as good, but when I watched an hour before dark there was still some good tubes out there, and I seen our guest John Mayer getting plenty of backhand tube action to himself in front of the camp!
