G-Land sucked in the swell today and produced the goods, but decided we had to all suffer with rain near all night and all day!! Well probably half the day in total didn't have rain, but when it did rain, there were some heavy squalls here and there. LUCKILY the wind (apart from during the squalls) kept good and was blowing offshore right from early morning.
So plenty of punters out there early, unusually crowded during the breakfast hours, no doubt chasers of the high tide. In hindsight that was possibly the best time, with sets pulsing through often. Perhaps the peak of the swell was then. The rest of the day was good when they came, but some reasonably spaced gaps between sets.
SIZE wise, the biggest waves I seen were double overhead, but mostly head and a half... 4-5ft, with the odd 6fter. It was a pretty west swell so most of the waves were hitting Ledge and upper Money Trees. Yet in the morning on the high tide the waves were going right through Money Trees, and just before sunset I seen some really nice waves going down the reef further, peeling off so seductively down at the Fang and inside Launching Pads... however on a 1.2m tide that end of the reef is deceptively dangerous, and its easy to get hurled at a great rate of knots onto shallow coral!
PS Somebody do a sun dance for us here??
