G-Land Surf was not quite what I expected when I woke, only 3-4ft, although totally surfable from dawn, with a light offshore grooming it, and staying clean for the whole day. What I was really expecting was big Launching Pads coming into Speedies, and I think everyone was expecting this. Well I knew it was coming, it was just running late.. but the question was, when would it come? Would I paddle out on a smaller board, then suddenly get slammed by massive sets? This was the question this morning at G-Land.
With a high tide at 9am, I really hoped this new South Swell would kick in fast, to provide some Speedies action. By 9am there were some 5ft sets, and then by 11am there were even the odd 6-8ft set, but the outgoing tide kinda ruined a full on Speedies session. Still, Money Trees had some real nice ones, and the odd one went through Speedies. The crowd was fairly hectic through the morning, so I ended up catching about 4 waves in 3 hours, but they were well worth the wait!
Through the afternoon the swell was streaming through, but the low tide made for less than desirable conditions. In saying that, there were some big double up barrels to be had if you hunted well, but for the most, it was a bit maxed out for the low tide, with big rogue peaks breaking on Launching Pads and peeling right handers into Money Trees! Well tomorrow morning is looking really good, and I hope its gonna turn it on with big macking Pad sets coming into filthy tubes in Speedies!!
