After 8 days straight of 6ft+ waves, G-Land surf had me feeling totally zapped this morning. Some sets still in the 4ft range were coming through, but a onshore breeze lasting until 11am meant that by the time it went offshore the swell also dropped to about 3ft.
G-Land Bobby's Surf Camp had a changeover day today, and one of the new guests tells me he has only been surfing for 3 weeks! So I certainly didn't want to send him out the front, instead I set up a truck ride for him down to Tigertracks. Myself only having surfed this place once a few years ago, I decided to come for a ride and bring my 6ft small wave board and get in a mellow backhand surf.
The waves at Tigertracks were only 1-2ft, however with a nice high tide, there was plenty of water and the waves were soft and easy and long rides. Said guest ended up having a ball, getting a few nice rides. I enjoyed going right for the first time in 2 months, and some other guests who came along enjoyed themselves too. One young 13 year old boy Nick had fun, while his Dad Bernie got in a bit of exercise also. Rodrigo & Monica whom are here on their 2nd wedding anniversary enjoyed the split peak situation, and Monica was getting some super long rides all the way to the beach. Their friend Yumiko also got lots of nice rides on her longboard.
G-Land has a reputation of being a super gnarly advanced-only surfing location, but really there is other options nearby that will have small fun waves, especially when timed with the high tides.
