G-Land wasn’t on like Donkey Kong but was still fun. The swell was a solid 4ft so it dropped alot since yesterday. There was a bit of rain around today so the winds didn’t get quite right, however Money Trees was very glassy. Kongs was good fun on low tide and was getting most of the swell.
The monkeys were going off in G-Land today, they were jumping all over the place and playing games. You forget you’re in the jungle here sometimes but there’s always something to remind you where you are.
The swell forecast for G-Land over the next few days doesn’t look so good so hopefully it’s not right.

G-Land STILL continuing to provide us all with really good-fun waves. Surf was about 6-8 foot faces, but ever so patiently, the point would line up with a 10 foot set. Fairly inconsistent through the day, but several pulses made the wait worthwhile.
Interesting cause Money Trees was not really recieving too much of the swell. But Launching Pad and Speedies worked most of the day…even on the lowish tide. Some beautiful pipes coming through Speed Reef.
Tough to make a fully committed claim on the season shifting since the rain is still coming down on and off, but the winds have been real nice since the 1st of the month.
Pool comp tonight and it’s always a great time. The staff love it and the guests really enjoy themselves too. It’s nice to get everyone together and create a solid memory of the communal feeling we can get being here together!

G-LAND!!! Oh my goodness what a day. To the guys who hung here for awhile and had to leave today, I wish you didn’t. And I’m sorry you had to. But I know there will be another time for you to get it. I’m hoping I’ll be here too when that time comes.
Truly a quality day! Winds stayed good almost all day, blowing with some degree of east in it. The swell was up and when the tides were right for each section of the reef, they all had their opportunity to produce some beautiful waves.
Money Trees was working well in the late morning and late afternoon… Launching Pad and Speedies were regularly connecting when you would expect they would, and Kongs was looking good pretty much all day long. Sets were maximum 12 foot faces towards the bottom of the reef and a little bigger up top. And quality barrels coming through from Money Trees down into Speedies…not meaning that it was connecting, just that this was where they were at.
One of those days when many of the guests appear to be overly thankful that they got to be a part of a beautiful day at G-Land! We were bombarded by some extremely heavy rain yesterday and today’s forecast was to be relatively the same. Well…

G-Land is still keeping on this new trend. The winds are definitely better than they have been earlier in the month. Most mornings are starting out with a light N wind and swinging through the W, ultimately going SSE. Anything with a little bit of E in it is nice.
Surf today was still focusing up at Kongs more than anywhere else. The swell models predicted a 202 degree swell, but it didn’t seem to be coming from that direction since nothing was really breaking down the reef. The scenario at Kongs was great. Some extremely long waves peeling through it’s many peaks. The few wide one’s that came in were easily worth the extra wait. Maybe something like 300 yards travelled…beautiful. Waves were up to 10 faces on the nice sets, but more like 6 foot on the common ones. Clean faces. Late afternoon low-tide had some nice sets on the Ledge and if you were lucky to get that one…well…riding the tube always feels nice.
Full moon party last night was real good fun. Lot’s of people from the other camps showed up and counting the 71 guests already here at Bobby’s, I’d say the headcount was something like 110+ bulehs plus the locals hanging out too. Puma put on a show for the first dance and we all tried to follow. The party went on till midnight and there were a few Aussie left wide-eyed through the night.

G-Land may “possibly” be turning. I can’t put too heavy of a bet on the winds coming right, but the past 3 days have definitely been getting better and better. Light winds today and the longest stint of offshores…lightly blowing for about 2 hours today.
G-Land surf was down a bit from yesterday, but still a few head-high waves coming through. I got lucky with an uncrowded morning time session at Speedies. Then made my way up to lower Kong’s and sat around through many a many lulls. Every so often though, a decent set would come through and line up down the reef for a 100 or so yards.
The forecast showed a little bump and right around sunset time, a nice little bump showed up. Speedies had some very nice looking waves running down the reef. Not all of them were make-able, but they were clean and hollow. Looked like a great place to be at, especially since no one was there.

G-Land received the first sizable swell of the season. Well…after writing that, I realized that “the season” is meant to acknowledge the dry season. But it’s still the wet season in my opinion. Either way, the forecast prediction was 8 foot at 18 seconds at 215 degrees. And it was pretty right on.
The forecast also predicted W and NW winds up to 15 knots all day. And fortunately, that was wrong. G-Land was pretty clean all day, but some S winds did churn up a bit. Luckily, it really didn’t have any bad effects on the wave form. Easily one of those days that at the end of your wave, the distance back up to the peak was impressively far away.
Everyone seems really happy and thankful for today. Fan Palms through Money Trees was working and some solid waves were coming through. It was on average 10 to 14 foot faces, but there were naturally some larger sets than that. Money’s had some very powerful sections that would really draw water off the reef and throw over. A few double-up sets as well. Early in the morning, Ledge was heaving over, but big walls made it a difficult option to take off on.
At sunset, the surf was pumping. Big sets, on the lower tide were folding over the Bombora. It may be another beautiful day to go surfing tomorrow.

G-Land highlights for the day…in backwards chronological order… Tiger Tom walked up on a macan hitam (black panther) just before dinner time. He spotted it just in time to get a look at it before it split in a flash back towards the jungle. I’ve been hoping my luck would be so great for years. This is the 3rd time I’ve been right in the vicinity, but not on the spot.
G-Land went offshore today. BUT…only for 30 minutes. NO JOKE. At about 17:00, the onshore winds had come to a standstill and a local front from the east blew over us. Strong offshore gusts, just enough to clean up the residual surface bump from all-day onshores and give a few guys some nice looking waves. Surf still had some size to it, maxing out at about 8 foot faces upreef of Money Trees.
G-Land is the most packed it has been this season. With today’s change over, were now using up all the tables in the dining area…but not all the seats…and getting pretty close to full-camp. 54 guests in total.
….PRAYING FOR GOOD WINDS! I know Pak Mangku is!!!

G-Land received the first sizable swell today. It was the first day that I could hear the waves thundering while I was still in my bungalow. The lay of the day went like this…. 2.6 meter high at 10:00 dropping to a 0.1 m low at 17:00; swell coming from about 204 degrees; consistent sets up to
12 foot on the face, peeling down the reef; really calm winds; good group of people in the water; intense sun and really warm water.
Speedies was on! G-Land was on… Even though the offshore wasn’t blowing, there was plenty of power in the swell to keep the lip line from breaking apart too much. I wish I could describe the situation vivid enough to paint a realistic picture. I’ve never seen Speedies like I did at certain times of today’s session. Amazingly glassy, drawing so much water off the reef that the drops were really difficult to make, all the new coral colors grabbing my attention, and bends and warbles in some of the waves that it was horseshoeing more than I’ve ever seen it. Plenty barrels ridden by everyone out there.
Swell forecast for tomorrow looks nice. I really hope that we continue receiving better and better conditions…well NATURALLY. But the way it’s been switching back and forth, I get the subtle feeling that it’s generally making a slow switch to dry-season conditions.

G-Land this morning, started off by continuing the beautiful conditions from yesterday. In writing that, there’s naturally going to be a “but.” But by 2:00, the onshore winds came on quick and strong. I made the wrong decision to wait for an after lunch until dusk session.
Early morning until early afternoon was really clean. I kept seeing one specific guy repeatedly getting tubes…not too long gone, but still in the right position. Really glassy, 6-10 foot faces breaking along the entire reef. But very inconsistent. Regular 40-minute lulls throughout the better part of the day. The forecast showed a fading swell and that’s what we were getting.
G-Land forecast for the next few days looks like it has the potential to be really fun. The wind seems to be the main factor that will determine the quality…but it almost always is. No rain today!!!

G-Land conditions went through a transition today in the wrong direction. The morning started out nice, continuing the 2-day trend of very calm winds and good swell. The swell remanined through the day, but the wind came onshore and strong at about 13:00. It was tough to get inspired to surf when it’s blowing like it was.
G-Land was still recieving 6-8 foot face sets running through most of the reef. We also recieved about 60-80 students from Muncar. You know what that means. English lessons. If I’m in the right mood to have fun with them, it can be 2 hours before I realize it’s time to go. Nice kids…always smiling and probably happy to be on a field trip, especially out here!!!
Until tomorrow…
