G-Land – 24th of May 2010

Monday, May 24th, 2010

G-Land started off very wet today. I got stuck at the bar last night. It was raining so heavy we couldn’t run back to the rooms so we just had a few drinks and waited. After a few too many I decided to just do the run and get wet. I was soaked!

When I checked the surf in the morning there was a massive hole in the beach front. The path to Bobby’s flowed down like a river and eroded about 10metres square of dirt into the ocean. It was over waist height deep and the tables and chairs were in the bottom of the hole like they had just sank into the ground.
The wind stayed light and softly offshore. The swell finally pumped in and the biggest set was probably 8ft. There were some bombs ridden and boards broken. Alot of excitement  between the surfers and alot of hoots as people were dropping over the ledge. Money trees and Kongs were the pick however Kongs was just a little fat.. The swell is a little more west than it has been but still good to see a little size. Looking forward to the session tomorrow!

G-Land on May 8th 2010

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

G-Land surf changed it’s face today pretty radically.  A new swell came in from about 222 degrees and our beautiful 4 day run of Launching Pad/Speedies came to an end.  It was nice to see exactly what a 20+ degree shift to the West would do….what part of the reef would turn on and what would turn off.

Lower Kong’s through the Ledge were collecting all the swell.  By 10:00 this morning,  nice sets were coming in and breaking  in the 6-8 foot (faces) range.  By noon, some legitiamately solid sets showed up and going real hollow through the Ledge.  Max sets today got up to 12-foot faces and the wind stayed good, blowing out of the East or going real calm.

Not many guys (well, for now, there’s a decent number of girls surfing)  were surfing until about 15:00.  But seemed like everyone came out for a surf after that.  Unfortunately, the consistency backed off and it was a session requiring a good amount of patience.  Still, there were some nice waves coming in it was possible to get at least one.  Another nice day to go surfing!

G-Land on April 18th 2010

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

G-Land stayed strong and consistent today.  And what I mean by that is in regards to the onshore.  Got to keep positive…in a jokingly way, right?  The west wind was the most intense onshore I’ve felt here before.  Some gusts had to get up to 25 knots.

Surf was still on, probably maxing out at 10 foot sets at Lower Kongs, but I didn’t witness anyone on them through the day.  Probably really difficult to get considering how disorganized it was.

Sitting here in the computer room, Roni just pressed play on the dinner time music and the buffet line is growing.  I’m going to get in it…so until tomorrow from G-Land!

G-Land on April 8th 2010

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

G-Land stormed last night again.  A powerful rain squall came through from the west and released a massive amount of water.  The jungle is staying green and probably will be that way for awhile.

G-Land surf conditions this morning were positive.  The swell was still coming in from about 210 degrees and focusing 6-10 foot face sets from Kongs through upper Money Trees.  What was a good surprise was the wind was not really blowing until about 11:00.  And it really didn’t get destroyingly strong until 2:00.  So we had some nice waves…smooth faces and decent length rides.   The late afternoon-sunset conditions left almost everyone hanging on the beach, relaxing on the bale’s and watching Molly go berserk.

I’m looking forward to the day when some nice, hollow waves come to us.  I find myself getting really positive at the end of each day, curious to see what the next day will be like.  Hope all’s going well wherever you’re at.  Everyone here seems to be positive and happy with what’s happening at Plengkung.

G-Land on March 29th 2010

Monday, March 29th, 2010

G-Land stopped being so quiet with the arrival of 12 new guests this morning.  But so quiet is relative to there being only 2 guests the day before.  The season is slowly opening up and with each week that passes, there’ll naturally be more of you showing up to G-Land.

G-Land surf picked up through the day.  Late afternoon has consistently been the better time to paddle out.  The sets were inconsistent, but the surf got up to about 4-6 feet on the face by sunset and a few were pushing through Money Trees…but very rare.  Kongs was still the more consistent section to be at.

Winds picked up a little stronger today at its peak…about 10 knots from the west, but because they were so variable, we still had a couple of glassy windows throughout the day.  And once again they mellowed right out for another sunset glass-off.

Full Moon at Pantai Plengkung but no Gandrung.  Next month for sure since there’ll be more guests here to duck away from the sari’s being slung around their necks.

October 5th 2009

Monday, October 5th, 2009

G-Land hadn’t dropped in size, infact there was some new sort of swell trying to show itself. A high peak period and much more west meant that by the afternoon Kongs had some nice 3-4ft sets. In the morning it was about 2-3ft. The wind was fairly variable most of the morning, but offshore and clean late morning onwards.

I went down to Tigertracks and (more…)
