G-Land – 29th May 2010

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

G-Land, another fun day! Got the best barrel of my trip so far, There were some 4ft sets early in the day but it was mainly 2-3ft. The sun was out and the offshore was the strongest I’ve seen since I’ve been here. It really helped the wave barrel better and I got in quite a few today.

A few of the new guests are a little scared of the waves out the front and wanted to go to Tiger Tracks or 20\20′s. They would freak if they seen what big was like here. G-Land is not a wave for beginners and should be taken seriously. We didn’t have enough fuel to take them so they just watched in awe out the front.

There were a few more dark clouds around this afternoon so I’m hoping G-Land stays dry.

May 20th 2010

G-Land was pulsing early on the sets this morning. The wind wasn’t right til 10:00am but earlier there were sets easy double overhead and the direction seemed really good because even with the onshore the wave looked makeable all the way through. It looked bigger than yesterday and a few of the guests that surfed yesterday even headed down to tiger tracks and 20 20′s to get away from the bigger ones.
I waited til lunch and went out for the long arvo session. Sat at Speedies waiting for ”the one”  but after 2 and a half hous got 6 waves, however, 2 of them were pretty damn good! Looking up the reef to money trees was more consistent and I seen some great waves ridden all the way through. When it got to shallow I paddled up and got some really nice clean, hollow waves.

It definitely dropped after lunch. The sets were really good and the later in the day just got hollower. It was very inconsistent but if you were prepared to wait there were some perfect waves coming through.
The swell is on the decline until Saturday but it shouldn’t be dropping a great deal.. The long range forecast looks really good too =)

Change over of guests this morning (40 guests in the camp now) and I had a good lesson in patience with them. Impressively, the forecast materialized enough to make me want to run for my board…but I needed just a little patience.  8 foot @ 16 seconds…211 degrees…offshore by 10.

During my beachfront part of the tour, what I was watching (more…)
