Not alot of great surf to report on team! Just thought I’d pop in and leave an update with you all, to kick off the new year. Speaking of which hope you all had a great Xmas and New Years, and have some good plans in the pipeline this year? I’ll be back in G-Land in May or June at this stage and hanging around for the rest of the season, its going to be great to get back on board the perfection train!
OK so on the swell front there is a really nice swell actually forecast for around the 16th, but with strong SW and W winds, and a rising windswell to cross it up some, it really won’t be happening in G-Land, except for down at 20/20’s I’d imagine there’d be some little ones to play on.
Weather wise there’ll be regular showers almost every day obviously being in the middle of the wet season that is expected.. There’s still a hardy skeleton crew keeping care of G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp to ensure its all in order for the 2010 season which is 1st March – Mid November.
I’m currently in Hawaii at the moment on the North Shore of Oahu, and theres certainly no shortage of big swells, hopefully this will mean many big swells in G-Land this season in this El Nino pattern??? Lets hope for big clean waves to get barreled on this year!!!
Aloha from Hawaii,
Jarred

For the current G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp is almost nothing to guests, it is as usual because it’s for this month until early months there was no swell and the barrel is sufficient to use as surfing. In other words G-Land in the holidays
Annual cycle of weather is to be served so that the G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp can only serve the guests to surf for at least 8 months of operation and maximum 11 months of operation depending on swell and barrels that may occur in G-Land.

I have to give credit to the organization… pretty sure it’s NOAA/NCEP’s OMB and affiliates… that exists by collecting data and processing that information into a usable model. Anything up to 2 days out seems to be fairly accurate, beyond that and too many events can happen to change the course of a surfer’s hope.
By noon, sets started to break at Kongs and any stresses from not surfing the past couple of days faded away. G-Land was (more…)

These early morning low-tides have really set up the later part of the day to only get better. A little more swell energy showed up today at G-Land…contra to what the forecast had predicted. And this is always a good reminder not to get overly reliant on the swell models. Money Trees was breaking more down-the-line than yesterday morning, but Kongs is and has been the staple on these retracting swell conditions. Still, it was a nice size…about 5 to 8 foot on the face at midday and still offshore all day!
By the late afternoon, Moneys rarely had sets, but no one sitting down there either. I was watching it from Kongs, hoping to get lured down there and enjoy it alone. Kongs was quality fun, but it wasn’t that consistent (more…)

0.0 meter tide at sunrise and with the decrease in swell, I could only see 1 foot of the 2 feet faces. With small swell and low low-tides, there is definitely a reason for hope. When there’s size on a 0.0, noticing how long surfers can disappear from view on their below-sea-level bottom turn is a good indicator of how quick you can get pushed up onto the reef.
By the reach of a 1.0 meter tide, both the offshores and surf started to rise up. So I planned my surf to ride off the crowning 2.0 meter high and into Happy Hour! It was few and far in between sets, but same for the number of people out in the surf.
G-Land was about 3 to 5 feet on the face and if you were the chosen one, that rare overhead wave came straight to your smiling face. Clean and (more…)

Upon the sun’s touch of the horizon line, all the laughter, story-telling, dancing, and play-fighting solidified my belief that everyone main-lined enough Plengkung panacea to leave this place filled with content. And all the first-timers, unknowingly, are hosting a newly sown seed which will later fruit into a delicious “I NEED to go back to G-Land!”
For today’s report, you can read yesterday’s thoughts and simply change NONE to ALMOST NONE…. 10-footers to 12-footers… deep to (more…)

It really amazes me how different the G-Land Surf conditions are from one day to the next. The early morning’s situation was not even close enough to wipe the sleep out of my eyes or head. However, by 11:00, sets were showing up as the tide came through its bottom…..but it was innnn_connnn_sissss_tent!
I ended up timing my surf opposite from (more…)

Relaxing is what today was all about. Most of today’s new guests went for a surf at some point in the day, but plenty of guests just lounged today at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp. Hanging in the hammock, reading a book, taking a nap, watching a movie, going for a walk, stretching…whatever felt right.
Early morning G-Land Surf conditions at 6:30 were pretty poor considering 0.4 meter low tide and weak swell. Max set size was 4 foot on the face (chest high) and heavily sectioned. By 11:00, I saw a few sets starting to run down the reef at lower Kongs and a few through Moneys. But it was more a hopeful indicator that the alleged swell was starting to fill in and not an enticer to go for a surf. The surf never really came up today at G-Land and that 11:00 pulse was probably the best of the day. People were of course still surfing throughout the day…
Last night was a Pool Comp night. The staff love really it! They’re the first to put in the buy-in. It was probably the best display of buleh playing and worst from the indos that I’ve ever seen. But in the end, Balinese Dewa claimed the pot on the same day that his deceased ancestors left Earth after a 10-day visit…the day of Kuningan. Read about it if your not already Hindu (and interested), it may make you massage your chin.

It started last night in the dining area of Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp, but I left it up to their high-noon scheduled meeting to see if it would really happen. You could melt all the empty confidence-fuel vessels from last night and make a glass-bottom boat. High noon came and only 2 people were good to their words…Newcastle Neil and Stanwell Park Charlie. I wasn’t going to make it “the 3 of us.” Instead…I paddled out through the lagoon, unplanned and to my benefit…just before they did. I.T.N. at 12-noon happened…that means “In The Nude.” Probably a first for Pantai Plengkung (G-Land).
I wonder…if it was pumping, would they have still committed. There were, however still (more…)

Nice deep long sleep until 7:30 A.M.. I had a little help pulling my door open this morning cause of an early arrival…OFFSHORES. Good fun all day today with crisp faces 6 to 8 foot high. Nice walls and some exciting tight barrels. Money Trees and all of Kongs easily spread everyone out thin. It was a playful day in comparison to the past 4 days of swell in the G-Land Surf.
Walking up the point late afternoon was refreshing. When I was going past Kongs, I saw some quality displays of wave riding… tight snaps in the pocket and long drawn arcs or just simple down-the-line speed generators. Around and beyond the point and now I feel really good. Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp is plush, but this peninsula is amazing!
You ever look at a squirrel and think…”if i cut it’s tail off, it looks a lot like a miniature bear?” Just a thought from G-Land.
