0.0 meter tide at sunrise and with the decrease in swell, I could only see 1 foot of the 2 feet faces. With small swell and low low-tides, there is definitely a reason for hope. When there’s size on a 0.0, noticing how long surfers can disappear from view on their below-sea-level bottom turn is a good indicator of how quick you can get pushed up onto the reef.
By the reach of a 1.0 meter tide, both the offshores and surf started to rise up. So I planned my surf to ride off the crowning 2.0 meter high and into Happy Hour! It was few and far in between sets, but same for the number of people out in the surf.
G-Land was about 3 to 5 feet on the face and if you were the chosen one, that rare overhead wave came straight to your smiling face. Clean and (more…)

I’m from southern California and I may be setting myself up to have fewer and fewer surfs there in the future. Today, I would give G-Land a 4 out of 10. Naturally….there’ll be a difference between my 10 and yours. But one thing is for sure, I’ve been fortunate enough to see high quality waves on almost every section of the reef minus beyond Speedies. Not many people have seen that section either…. My point is that today’s 4 here was a 9 out of 10 back home. If I can’t permanently live here at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp, I may have to start searching for a quality tree somewhere near!!!
So…I made it into the line-up at about 10:45, but beautifully there was no one to line-up behind. By 11:30 my head was truly burning up cause I had not stopped surfing/paddling/surfing/etc.. Three souls joined me after my first couple of waves and we traded off waves with a smile. I write souls cause it’s much easier to feel that…see that…when your not in the middle of a hungry pack of individuals.
Photog John came up to us, stopped for a brief moment before continuing on up-reef to the more populus pack. Not many more though. Ended up getting that special window. If he parked below us, everyone from Money Trees would have migrated down.
Today’s G-Land Surf Report: 3-4 foot (6-8 foot faces)…12 seconds @ 207*…~10 knot offshore….AND every section of the reef having a moment today with exception to Launching Pads and beyond top-end Speedies. That easily misjudgable ledge even had a couple of…well…ledges!

It was good to notice a change from yesterday in the G-Land Surf conditions early this morning. It wasn’t drastic enough to run back and get my board, but instead just gave me thoughts that things are moving in the positive direction.
The surf picked up at G-Land from 2-3 feet at dawn reaching (more…)

G-Land was a similar size to yesterday, although a touch less power and height. Today the wind was better, by late morning there was a fairly good trade up, and through the afternoon there were some pretty clean waves. The odd good barrel was ridden here and there.
G-Land Surf had waves all down the reef through (more…)

Welcome back to G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp Mr George, aka Mr Coca Cola, perhaps the guy who has spent the most amount of days in G-Land than anybody else?! A legend in his own right, he knows the G-Land Surf like the back of his hand, he’s in his 50’s and he’s fit as a fiddle, rides a variety of surfboards and surfs 2-3 times a day, and outpaddles everybody!
G-Land was about 3-4ft in the morning with (more…)

G-Land Surf finally started pumping!!! Today was the best day in like 3 weeks, and maybe the best cleanest Speedies session in 2 months! Not really big, but 3-4ft kegs coming down the tail end of Speedies, and the odd 6ft Pad set, and as the day wore on Money Trees had some great moments where there were 4-6ft sets coming through, before dark it pumped too!
G-Land is so good with a good wind (more…)

Today I felt the need to go to Bali for a week for a holiday from a holiday. 1 month in the G-Land jungle had me craving something more. The fact that I have a nasty burn on my leg and a tweaked back also encouraged me to take a Bali trip now too. So on the fast boat and a couple hours later I’m in Bali, and not long after I’m in all the Kuta nightclubs sampling many different cocktails, listening to thumping sounds, spending lots of money, and spinning into the Kuta Vortex.. Woooaaaahh!!
G-Land Surf was about 3-5ft through the day for the new (more…)

Amen to the good lord, we finally have a clean crisp swell in G-Land again! Not as clean and as crisp as it can get, but with barely any current through the high tide, and some nice barrels on offer through Money Trees and Launching Pads and Speedies, it just made life seem that much better.
G-Land Surf was about 3-4ft early in the (more…)

Last night I had a very nice long sleep, from 10pm till 7:30am, that certainly felt good! Nothing like a good sleep. Still swell pushing through into the G-Land Surf today, at 3-5ft, and an offshore wind coming up well before 9am. Some good waves had through the day, it was hitting the reef better today than yesterday although it was smaller.
Some waves hitting down Speedies (more…)

Bagus sekali (very good) wind was blowing this morning in G-Land. At dawn it was a perfect groomed light offshore, and as the morning went by the wind got up to a nice breeze and maintained a perfect direction. Mmmmmmmm yessssss… Swell was still a nice size this morning, up till about 9am there was plenty of 3-5ft sets running right down the reef, but upon high tide Pad/Speedies stopped breaking pretty much and the waves moved right up the reef.
After my morning session in the G-Land Surf, scoring (more…)
