Pumping

G-Land is beginning to remind me of August 2008 when there was a high percentage of days that were in the 2-4ft range… However within a week comes a big swell and then quite likely another one within a week of that. So roll on a pumping August… In saying that I have only been here for 7 days, and a week before I got here was all time.

So today in the G-Land Surf there was 3ft sets with the very occasional 4ft set coming through nicely overhead. Every section of the reef seemed to have a set here and there. A good offshore wind blew from early morning all day long, there was no rain last night or today, so things are not so bad.

G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp had quite a big turn over today, and now the camp is full. Yet it hasn’t even been very crowded in the surf. From what I hear the other camps are very quiet. Well we got out own little township going here, lots of families, couples, crew from all walks of life, its a great vibe and who can complain when theres plenty of waves for all.

G-Land was so fun again today! The sun was out the offshore was good and the waves were pumping. We were getting long ones all the way through from the ledge to the end of speedies and plenty of faces around 10 ft tall.

On the downside G-Land had some really bad jelly fish. Worst I have seen it. A few of us including myself had to go in because we were covered in welts. They were nasty little suckers.

Throughout the whole day G-Land was pumping and at the end everyone was chingin their bintangs and talking about the great rides they had. The vibe is unreal here, everybody is stoked.

G-Land was looking really good this morning. The sets were 8 ft and Launching Pads into Speedies was pumping but the rest of the reef wasn’t that great. After about 1p.m there was a massive sweep coming down the reef and by 3 it was all washed out. It was too low to surf speedies by then and the rest of the reef didn’t look that great.

I paddled up and watched Money trees but there was nobody out the whole of G-Land and it wasn’t looking too great. There were 10ft sets by then and it was that unpredictable I ended up paddling down the boat channel to get in. Caught my frst wave across the boat channel and it was 3ft. Never seen it break there before.

Nobody paddled out G-Land all afternoon it was that out of control.

G-Land was really fun today. Consistent walls of about 6ft were pumping through all day. Everyone was getting barrelled and the crowd wasn’t too bad.

The direction wasn’t the best for all of  G-Land but money trees was very consistent. The wind was howling offshore and holding up the wave nice. What a machine =)

It rained again this morning in G-Land for a few hours but then the sun came out and it was game on! Good day had by all!

G-Land – 1st June 2010

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

G-Land was consistent and pumping!! Been wanting to write this one for a while now but it finally all came together! The direction was really good for the whole reef. Speedies was REALLY good!

Everybody was happy and nobody got hurt. There were alot of barrels coming through and the offshore tradewinds were perfect!

G-Land broke a few boards today. It was 4 to 6 foot… Maybe even bigger. From the shore you couldn’t see people bottom hand turning on the sets because they were behind the wave infront.

There is now a tower on the reef made out of bamboo for the quiksilver event here in G-Land. Should be a great place for them to film from!

Woody ran out of beer last night. Everybody was very thirsty and drank the bar dry. Trust the swell to jump after a big night eh! Everybody is very tired and we will all be in bed soon. What a day!

G-Land change over day today and we’re hosting a total of 24 guests.  I get the feeling that this next trip is going to be overloaded, but we’ll see.  Not the worst day to have to leave G-Land.  Surf was still working…but not pumping.  However, that Money Trees sets I saw last night continued on down the reef this morning and sent us some Inside Launching Pad sets through the 2.5 meter high tide.  NO BARRELS really since the wind wasn’t cooperating.

For the rest of the day, Money Trees on up through Kong’s was breaking and probably about 6-8 foot faces on average.  The conditions were fairly OK, just a bit variable on the wind again, but there swell angle was good.  I didn’t surf today since…well…it’s tough to surf everyday and I really need to respect the equatorial sun and massive extent of this reef that is paddled.

Special surprise today from our neighbors in Muncar.  The school kids showed up on Thursday… outside of their usual Sunday field trip… and took over.  I really enjoy them, just need to get rid of those scoring sheets they want us to judge them with.  You know, talking to 3 kids somehow turns
into 25 sheets of paper in my lap which is nothing else but strange to me cause who am I to give a kid anything else but an A+!

I’ll try and keep on the kabar about the barge up around the point.  It’s still there for now, but hopefully they’ll get it off before all the coal washes off.  But maybe that’s how it’ll work out.  If it’s lighter, it’ll be easier.

G-Land Surf finally started pumping!!! Today was the best day in like 3 weeks, and maybe the best cleanest Speedies session in 2 months! Not really big, but 3-4ft kegs coming down the tail end of Speedies, and the odd 6ft Pad set, and as the day wore on Money Trees had some great moments where there were 4-6ft sets coming through, before dark it pumped too!

G-Land is so good with a good wind (more…)

G-Land completely fooled me today. I got up at 5am (I much prefer to sleep in) thinking I was gonna score Speedies real good, and for the first time in about a week the wind was an ugly sideshore coming up the face. Then I paddled out at 7:30 expecting a change, and about 8:30 it changed – to a straight onshore! What a bummer, as Launching Pad was (more…)

G-Land had eased back in the morning to 3-5ft, glassy-come-offshore conditions. After so many days of good waves the crowd was pretty minimal. I decided to just relax, and hope the internet forecast of an afternoon bump was to come (more…)

Ombak Bagus Lagi – Good waves again. G-Land Surf had an offshore wind caressing it first thing in the morning. Add to this 4-6ft sets and we had a long day of pumping waves at Money Trees, and apart from a 3pm rush of punters in the line-up it was mostly really uncrowded all day in (more…)
