G-Land rained from the heavens this morning! After a reported month or so of only occasional light rain, it just bucketed down for a few hours today. Highly unusual for G-Land in July. So with the rain came variable winds that lasted all day. On the positive side the swell built all day. Beginning around 2-3ft in the morning, it was solid thick 4-5ft in the afternoon and grinding down the low tide Money Trees sections. However with that variable wind it made any barrel riding attempts dangerous and risky.
Not a lot of guests came in with good reports. Although there were still some stoked punters who got some great rides. I took a handful of guests down to Tigertracks late morning. 3 girls and a guy + me, we all had a fun time and got some nice 2-3ft hot dog rights. Perfect waves for the girls to feel at ease on, and still some great pockets for me Asher & I to whip some backhand combos.
Tomorrow should be real good presuming the trade winds blow…

G-Land backed off today but the swell cleaned up! It was 6ft in the morning and 4 ft by the afternoon.
It was very consistent and the offshore was perfect direction for G-Land to really open up . There were so many barrels and it wasn’t rare to get 2 on 1 wave. Had a really fun afternoon!
A guy from Torquay told me it was the best surf he’d ever had hands down! It ‘s his first trip to G-Land and he’s already talking about coming back next year! Another happy guest at Bobby’s =)

G-Land was good again. No large crowd and everyone getting plenty of waves! We’ve had a pretty good week all up with less and less disappearing from each camp each day.
We already have a few of the Quiksilver crew here. The rest come tomorrow and all the current guests will be leaving. Quiksilver have hired out the whole of G-Land so nobody else will be out except them. I will be helping the paramedics with the first aid, hopefully I’ll be allowed to have a surf.
It will be good to see Quiksilver’s best surfers tearing apart the long perfect walls of G-Land. The surf is meant to drop a little but then jack back up on Thursday.

G-Land was consistent and pumping!! Been wanting to write this one for a while now but it finally all came together! The direction was really good for the whole reef. Speedies was REALLY good!
Everybody was happy and nobody got hurt. There were alot of barrels coming through and the offshore tradewinds were perfect!
G-Land broke a few boards today. It was 4 to 6 foot… Maybe even bigger. From the shore you couldn’t see people bottom hand turning on the sets because they were behind the wave infront.
There is now a tower on the reef made out of bamboo for the quiksilver event here in G-Land. Should be a great place for them to film from!
Woody ran out of beer last night. Everybody was very thirsty and drank the bar dry. Trust the swell to jump after a big night eh! Everybody is very tired and we will all be in bed soon. What a day!

G-Land today had the onshore flowing all day. The swell direction and size was perfect for a fun overhead day. In fact, the swells we’ve been getting have all had really nice direction, letting the energy attach and wrap around the headland and peel down the reef. I spent a lot of the day sitting out front checking to see if a window of calm or better wind materialized. No luck!
When I wasn’t out front, I was hanging out back by the food box watching the Makak’s sort out their feeding rights. One little guy amazed me how big his balls were. He would charge right up to us, flash is teeth, raise his brow, and get withing 3 feet of our feet. That would be like me trying to front on a 20-foot tall animal. NEVER!
Happy Birthday Danny! Another delicous cake made by the kitchen staff and another good surprise for a new guest.

G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp had an even amount of guests come and go this morning, so there is still about 50 people in the camp, nationalities include Australian, American, Hawaiian, New Zealand, Brazil, South African, and likely another one or two I’ve missed. The atmosphere is great in the camp, we’re all in our own little world, (more…)
