paddle

G-Land was very relaxing today. A few people took their boards for a paddle to beat the bordem and a few were giving money to the local ladies and getting massages relaxing down the beach.

I did a yoga session this morning at Joyo’s camp to stretch my sore muscles out. There is alot of paddling in G-Land and it is nice to have a stretch now and again.

After lunch I went fishing up to the key hole way up past Kongs. It took us about an hour to get there and none of us got any fish. The fishing in G-Land has been a little average this season, the spear fishermen have been doing the best. I will have to walk up there again and take some photos. The coal barge has split in two and the coal is all over the beach. It’s such a big barge and it’s just sitting high and dry on the reef at low tide.

G-Land had 17 people leave and 19 people arrive. Alot of people just went for a paddle for the sake of it as it was very small.

G-Land definitely looked better earlier, I walked up to Kongs this afternoon to surf low tide and ended up walking back.

I decided to go fishing and got my lure taken by somethng big. From the swell forecast I think I will be fishing in G-Land tomorrow.

G-Land on April 1st 2010

G-Land looked more like it’s normal dry-season character early this morning.  The stormfront passed over us yesterday and blue skies over Grajagan Bay burned my face up today.  It was looking promising that the remaining swell would be groomed by some offshore winds.  I’ve been missing that feeling of true G-Land.

9:30 and bad winds started showing its face.  I went for a paddle just to get out before anything ridiculously bumpy showed up.  In the end, it wasn’t too bad at all and by the end of my session, I was able to ride a few fairly smooth-faced walls at Money Trees….the winds backed off instead.

Sets were still about 6-8 foot on the face at Money’s and naturally a few over-sized one’s came through.  But by the afternoon, the swell had dropped off and the onshore picked up pretty strong.  A few guys were still out until sunset, but I think just to enjoy being in the warm water.

Still hoping…staying positive…hope to be writing about some quality waves.

Over time, everyone develops their own reliable line-up markers at G-Land and I visited two old, almost forgotten friends… gebang kembar.  It’s a such a fun peak that is undoubtedly reliable.  I didn’t surf until 3 today…looked at it a few times earlier on, but took one of those long, unexpected midday sleeps again. And the rest was so well used up by the non-stop wave riding that transpired from my first wave until after sunset.  Thinking back, my first wave was amazingly long.  “That wave went for so long” kept resonating in my thoughts on the 15-minute paddle back up.  WOW!!!

Walking through the corridor between the dining area and the beach was emotional early this morning.  The thunder generated by the reef bounce was powerful.  I was instantly shocked out of my normal morning old-man pace and into another cellular orbit.  It was a nice reminder to harness that power more voluntarily.

BUT…there was a different reason why (more…)

Morning check and the surf had risen, winds were calm and the day looked promising.  BUT not long after that was the first sobering incident.  At one point I almost dropped…wanting to pass out, playing tug-o-war with some guy and CJ’s shoulder in the middle.  Finally it set back into its socket and I relaxing seeing CJ’s  eyes going calm and glassy… pharmaceutical drugs are more powerful than a placebo.  The morning drama subsided and Doctor Preeti was thanked over and over.  Here’s another…. MANY THANKS PREETI FOR YOUR CONFIDENT HELP!!!

Today was field trip day at Pantai Plengkung (G-Land).  Truckloads of (more…)
