G-Land going strong and alive for one week straight now. Swell came down in size a bit, but still breaking strong in the 8 – 10 foot face range. Money Trees was lining up real nice and staying hollow…many long makeable tubes today. Peak high tide of 2.1 meters still set-up Launching Pad into Speedies, but not many letting you in and then out.
The ocean surface conditions and winds have been surprising for the past week or so. That early “morning sickness” typical of G-Land has not been happening at all. Opposite to it, the mornings have been real quality. Anyone getting out for the dawn session has been rewarded with quality, uncrowded waves. But sleeping in here is one of the beautiful parts of waiting for the 10 o’clock offshores arrival. And that’s another form of reward!!!
I’m truly thankful for the crew that’s been around for this window of surf. A lot of really competent surfers and everyone showing a noticeable amount of respect for the other people in the water. It makes such difference!!!
Thanks for reading. I’m on my way out for now, but Brett is still around.

G-Land was big today. A new swell came in and I could hear it clearly from my room when I woke up at 6:30. The surf got up to solid 16 foot faces around 12:30 and as the tide dropped enough to keep the ocean out of the lagoon, a strong current was sweeping down the reef.
2.4 meter high tide at 9:00 and most everyone in the jungle seemed to be out at Launching Pad and Speedies. We never really got the offshore today and with the new swell being quite raw, most of the waves were OK. Only a couple handful would connect into Speedies. But there were some heavy barrels running through Speedies….just had to be in the right position to get it.
After 1:00 and not one person was out front. Heavy, large collapsing sections and shifty peaks at Money Trees was good enough reason. The Bombora was lighty breaking at high tide and by low tide, some massive waves were heaving over and running almost straight into Money’s.
A lot of people went down to 20/20′s and Tigertracks, coming back with good news of head high waves, real clean and real fun. I saw Chicken’s and it was on as well. Basically, plenty of swell to run down the entire reef and into the Bay.
Possibly tomorrow???

G-Land backed off from yesterday and definitely was a day to do something other than surfing. But still, there’s always a few people that want to surf no matter what. I tried to rally together a group to go to the caves beside Pancur (closest Ranger gate to us) but it fell through in the end. We got 5 newly skinned drums here and it would have been nice to go act a bit tribal up there. Maybe another day.
Kongs was maybe head high maximum and pretty weak looking. I didn’t see anything come through Money Trees today. Winds were fairly calm throughout the day and because of that, by 3:00 o’clock, the smooth ocean surface made the afternoon glare ridiculously overwhelming and blinding like a welding arc.
Story talking is starting. Anyone looking at the swell forecast has seen what I’m writing about. If the numbers really do materialize, it’s going to be interesting to see how big some of the peaks coming in will be. Definitely the most sizable swell of the season. Maybe I’ll be writing the same thing again on the 11th.

G-Land started off very wet today. I got stuck at the bar last night. It was raining so heavy we couldn’t run back to the rooms so we just had a few drinks and waited. After a few too many I decided to just do the run and get wet. I was soaked!
When I checked the surf in the morning there was a massive hole in the beach front. The path to Bobby’s flowed down like a river and eroded about 10metres square of dirt into the ocean. It was over waist height deep and the tables and chairs were in the bottom of the hole like they had just sank into the ground.
The wind stayed light and softly offshore. The swell finally pumped in and the biggest set was probably 8ft. There were some bombs ridden and boards broken. Alot of excitement between the surfers and alot of hoots as people were dropping over the ledge. Money trees and Kongs were the pick however Kongs was just a little fat.. The swell is a little more west than it has been but still good to see a little size. Looking forward to the session tomorrow!

G-Land backed off today a bit but there was still a few sizable sets coming through. There must have been some decent west winds out in the open ocean, cause the somewhat calm winds here on the coast didn’t warrant the bumps crossing up the swell.
G-Land surf was about 5-7 foot faces but, towards the later afternoon… once again… larger sets (6-8 foot) were pulsing in hitting Ledge/Money’s. And if your good fortune was strong, it was possible to get a ride for a few hundred yards. The bumps made it a good challenge to negotiate the sections, but swooping around them with speed and getting up on the high line always feels nice.
Surreal sunset tonight. The cloud cover was situated perfectly to bounce light from the already set sun back down onto the water giving us a session in molten lava. When it’s like that, it’s easy to miss a set since there’s a legitimate distraction.
Happy Birthday to Will Carless… unplanned and unknowingly, his short stay here got him a couple days of fun waves and then a ultra-sweet birthday cake. Hope you enjoyed it all!

lionfish
Smallest day yet since I arrived 1 month ago. A few of the guys went for a surf, but I don’t think they were able to ride a wave for more than 20 yards. G-Land can go flat and tomorrow’s forecast is to go even flatter. But we still have good winds. A little south in it again, but dominantly from the east.
Cole went for a dive and speared a small Jack, the 3 Pomes (Saul-Myles-Spencer) and 2 new guests (Greg n Roger) watched a movie and had a surf, Warren went for 2 surfs I think, I saw a lionfish in the little pool off of 1st point, and Molly chased fish all day. A calm, restful day at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp.
It’ll be interesting to see how calm the ocean is tomorrow since today is one of the flattest I’ve ever seen.
