3rd consecutive day of quality G-Land Surf.  Backed-off just a bit from yesterday, but “only a bit.”  Every day that passes makes me more appreciative for the conditions that we’re getting.  There will be that day…probably soon…where I’ll commit to the thought “yeah, the season has switched.”  It’s getting hotter, more humid, a few light rains at night, more atmospheric moisture hanging above Grajagan Bay, the monsoon season started off the Philippines, BUT… the offshores are still happening.  And that needs to change so I can easily “commit to that thought!”

0.0 meter tide at sunrise and with the decrease in swell, I could only see 1 foot of the 2 feet  faces.   With small swell and low low-tides, there is definitely a reason for hope.  When there’s size on a 0.0, noticing how long surfers can disappear from view on their below-sea-level bottom turn is a good indicator of how quick you can get pushed up onto the reef.

By the reach of a 1.0 meter tide, both the offshores and surf started to rise up.  So I planned my surf to ride off the crowning 2.0 meter high and into Happy Hour!  It was few and far in between sets, but same for the number of people out in the surf.

G-Land was about 3 to 5 feet on the face and if you were the chosen one, that rare overhead wave came straight to your smiling face.  Clean and (more…)

G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp had 11 people leave and 7 arrive. Of the 7, Michael Narchi arrived in camp, and I will be training him during my final 6 days, as he will be taking over as surf guide for the rest of the season. He has surfed G-Land many times in the past, shapes his own boards, and is often seen out in big G-Land waves riding his 5′9 twin fin! I think he’s going to make a good surf guide, and he will add a good style to the job here.

G-Land Surf was a bit bigger today, plenty of 4-5ft sets (more…)

Bloody Bagus waves today readers!!! G-Land had a beautiful perfect trade blowing before 7am, and the swell kept building through the day. 3-4ft until about 10am, then 4-5ft through the noon high tide, and then there were 6ft sets coming through later in the day!

G-Land Surf had barely any current today, and (more…)

G-Land Surf had a slight increase today, the sets were 3-4ft all morning, and then in the afternoon there were solid 5ft sets up at the Kongs end of the reef. The wind was rather variable all day, not really a great offshore, but clean still, and some really nice overhead walls to be ripped up. Before dark I even got into a few nice glassy tubes and got some super smooth Ledge pockets, that my old 6′1 channels board sliced like a hot knife through butter.

All morning and early afternoon I did some surf coaching down at Tigertracks with Hoppy, the daughter of AFL legend Gerard Healy, as well as (more…)

A full house today in G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp. 70ish guests after changeover this morning, but still the surf wasn’t even crowded, probably because the other 2 camps do not have many guests. Upon first check of the surf this morning at 7am, the surf was 2-3ft and looking like a rest day in preparation for the forecast swell tomorrow. Then at 10:30am when I was taking new guests on Orienation Tour (after showing them my whiteboard which said surf a 6ft board for the 2-3ft surf today) we see a macking 6ft double overhead set come through!! Wow, the swell came super early for once! So now on my Tour I talk about travel insurance and why people should have it, and after that speech a few people who didn’t have it already went online and bought some. Wise move in Indonesia and especially G-Land.

So about 12pm I paddled out in the G-Land Surf on my (more…)

Thankfully I had an early night last night and had a big sleep, as when I walked down the beach to check the G-Land Surf just after 7am BOOYAAAHHH! I see a solid 8ft set hit the Pad, and I quickly shoot back to the restaurant and scoff down my breakfast. I didn’t even realise the swell was coming up so much, a pleasant surprise! Unfortunately the wind didn’t come the best through the high tide, it was real South, but still some good 6-8ft sets at Money Trees, and even the odd slightly bigger rearing up on Launching Pads. The swell was a bit raw and without a stiff good offshore, not alot of waves were linking into Speedies so well. But still there was some bombs to be had! I surfed for about 4 hours and enjoyed the size surprise.

After the 1.8m tide at 12pm, just like I tell new guests when (more…)

G-Land easily redeemed itself after yesterdays performance! Plenty of swell still hanging around all morning, solid 6-8ft sets coming through Money Trees and Launching Pads, glassy with no morning onshore, and then a damn sight better than yesterday Trade wind kicked in before 9am! Stoked!!

The crowd wasn’t too bad either, everyone was mostly (more…)

G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp had a pretty even turnover today, about 20 left and 20 came, alot of people first time here, so my Orientation Tour was well attended later in the morning.

G-Land still had some great waves today, not quite as mental as yesterday, but there were some sick barrels to had nonetheless. The trades kicked in mid morning like clockwork, and there was 4-5ft sets to be had all day in the G-Land Surf.

High Tide was late morning, and (more…)
