G-Land was a playground today! Everyone was having fun! The sets were maybe 6ft early but a consistent 4 for most of the day. Money trees, Launching Pads, and Speedies were all really fun.
I snapped my 6’0. It wasn’t quite big enough for the 6’8 and my 6’4 is gone so I was a little under gunned. Got really deep inside the barrel at Speedies and it didn’t let me out. The lip destroyed it so I’ll be needing a new one soon. Wasn’t the only one in G-Land to break one today though.
There is hardly anyone here and everyone has been getting lots of waves here in G-Land.
G-Land ended up being o.k today. The onshore seemed to be picking up so we organized a group of 10 people to check out reverse G where the wind should have been offshore judging by the conditions and the forecast we had. Loaded the boat full of boards, food, water and some beers for the ride home of course. After a 45 minute boat ride it was still onshore even though it was facing the opposite direction. The swell didn’t seem to be hitting it right either so we just ended up coming back.
We were back by 10:00am and there were still 2 beers drank so the spirits were still high. Most of the crew jumped out of the boat straight into the lineup and the rest of us followed soon after. The wind dropped off and swung offshore but stayed really calm most of the day. It was a little inconsistent but everybody got some good ones at money trees that were a little overhead and even some fun sized smaller ones down launching pads. I seen a few nice barrels and even managed to tuck into a couple as well.
Great to be back at G-Land and looking forward to spending some time here.
A few reasons to visit G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp, and experience what we have to offer. Surfing is Jarred Hancox at Money Trees, Launching Pads, Speedies & Tigertracks…, Many thanks to Jarred….
G-Land finally pulled in some swell today…as forecasted. In fact, the forecast was accurate on both the swell and wind. The sets were 8-10 foot (faces) and even though the wind was predominantly out of the NNW, it never created enough shearing to break-up the wave line. It was the first day in about 1 week that traveling 200 yards down the line happened frequently. We got to feel just a little bit of this place’s special character again…G-Land.
Money Trees was collecting most of the swell, but if I was so fortunate to be out in the water around 10:00, I would have been the sole surfer for a Fang session…when it breaks like mini Launching Pads/Speedies. But in being real with what I saw, no offshore = no barrels. But the form was still looking nice.
By sunset, sets were still running down the point and at dusk, I was able to count 5 waves spoking around Fan Palms through Money Trees. I’m excited to wake up this next morning and hopefully see the same scenario unraveling.
I’m from southern California and I may be setting myself up to have fewer and fewer surfs there in the future. Today, I would give G-Land a 4 out of 10. Naturally….there’ll be a difference between my 10 and yours. But one thing is for sure, I’ve been fortunate enough to see high quality waves on almost every section of the reef minus beyond Speedies. Not many people have seen that section either…. My point is that today’s 4 here was a 9 out of 10 back home. If I can’t permanently live here at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp, I may have to start searching for a quality tree somewhere near!!!
So…I made it into the line-up at about 10:45, but beautifully there was no one to line-up behind. By 11:30 my head was truly burning up cause I had not stopped surfing/paddling/surfing/etc.. Three souls joined me after my first couple of waves and we traded off waves with a smile. I write souls cause it’s much easier to feel that…see that…when your not in the middle of a hungry pack of individuals.
Photog John came up to us, stopped for a brief moment before continuing on up-reef to the more populus pack. Not many more though. Ended up getting that special window. If he parked below us, everyone from Money Trees would have migrated down.
Today’s G-Land Surf Report: 3-4 foot (6-8 foot faces)…12 seconds @ 207*…~10 knot offshore….AND every section of the reef having a moment today with exception to Launching Pads and beyond top-end Speedies. That easily misjudgable ledge even had a couple of…well…ledges!
Today I felt the need to go to Bali for a week for a holiday from a holiday. 1 month in the G-Land jungle had me craving something more. The fact that I have a nasty burn on my leg and a tweaked back also encouraged me to take a Bali trip now too. So on the fast boat and a couple hours later I’m in Bali, and not long after I’m in all the Kuta nightclubs sampling many different cocktails, listening to thumping sounds, spending lots of money, and spinning into the Kuta Vortex.. Woooaaaahh!!
G-Land Surf was about 3-5ft through the day for the new (more…)
For the third day straight not one person paddled out the main G-Land break. 20/20′s was surfed all through the day, with 2-4ft sets breaking better than yesterday along the short reef break. A few people got some reported fun ones at Chickens also.
Amen to the good lord, we finally have a clean crisp swell in G-Land again! Not as clean and as crisp as it can get, but with barely any current through the high tide, and some nice barrels on offer through Money Trees and Launching Pads and Speedies, it just made life seem that much better.
Thankfully I had an early night last night and had a big sleep, as when I walked down the beach to check the G-Land Surf just after 7am BOOYAAAHHH! I see a solid 8ft set hit the Pad, and I quickly shoot back to the restaurant and scoff down my breakfast. I didn’t even realise the swell was coming up so much, a pleasant surprise! Unfortunately the wind didn’t come the best through the high tide, it was real South, but still some good 6-8ft sets at Money Trees, and even the odd slightly bigger rearing up on Launching Pads. The swell was a bit raw and without a stiff good offshore, not alot of waves were linking into Speedies so well. But still there was some bombs to be had! I surfed for about 4 hours and enjoyed the size surprise.
After the 1.8m tide at 12pm, just like I tell new guests when (more…)
G-Land easily redeemed itself after yesterdays performance! Plenty of swell still hanging around all morning, solid 6-8ft sets coming through Money Trees and Launching Pads, glassy with no morning onshore, and then a damn sight better than yesterday Trade wind kicked in before 9am! Stoked!!
The crowd wasn’t too bad either, everyone was mostly (more…)
