G-Land on MARCH 31st 2010

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

G-Land stormed once again through the morning.  My thought on that is that the jungle is only going to get greener….it’s already amazingly lush.  The surf conditions out front were pretty difficult to get inspired by since the wind direction was still out of the west and north, not ideal for G-Land.

So, it was time to rally up a hopeful crew to head down the point to check out the situation at 20-20′s and Tigertracks.  20′s was small and looking like chocolate milk from the purged rivermouth embankment.  Tigertracks had enough to get me and a few other guests in the water, but the session didn’t last too long because of the quickly dropping tide.  But the clouds had parted and the sky was spotted with blue so it was beautiful to hang on the beach and roll around in the little shorebreak.

I would have to say the highlight of the day was dinner.  Gianto (Froddo) and the kitchen staff have really been refining their culinary skills during the off- season and the sweet chicken and veggies they prepared for us was delicious.  I’ll be waiting for that one again.

KEEP ENJOYING….

G-Land on March 30th 2010

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

G-Land woke me up this morning with the beautiful sound of a new swell.  It was the first time since I arrived that my walk up to the beach was overly exciting.  I wish I didn’t have to write this, but from early morning on through sunset, the wind was the only element out of sync for a high quality day to happen at G-Land.

G-Land
could have been epic.  Full moon, strong south swell about 205 degrees, and very few surfers in the jungle.  I watched Speedies draw the lumped up swell through the high tide, the Ledge receive some explosive peaks at the tides opposite end, Money Trees handle everything, and about 5 Bombora sets break in the later afternoon.  It was difficult to see everything have the potential to be working all in one day, but IT DIDN’T.  And that was  because one element, the proper wind, was missing.

By 4:30, a powerful storm front came across Grajagan Bay and brought with it a booming thunderstorm and dropped a solid amount of rain.  It was refreshing to sit under the 2 new bale’s out front and watch, feel, and smell the storm go passed us.

Hoping for a more in sync day tomorrow.
Until then….MICHAEL

Some morning surf checks are pretty evident that the day is not meant to be spent surfing.  There was size, not large, but enough to unload some loud one’s on the reef.  There’s something about the sky here, more about the moisture content in the local atmosphere that seems to be a tell-tale of how the day may be.  G-Land was 3 to 4 foot again but the westerly wind-flow never came.  Walled-up lumps with many bumps make the G-Land Surf a true challenge in projecting long-distances with control and fluidity. G-Land hadn’t dropped in size, infact there was some new sort of swell trying to show itself. A high peak period and much more west meant that by the afternoon Kongs had some nice 3-4ft sets. In the morning it was about 2-3ft. The wind was fairly variable most of the morning, but offshore and clean late morning onwards.

I went down to Tigertracks and (more…)

Another really clean day in G-Land, but fairly small. Fun 2-3ft waves all day, Kongs, Fan Palms, Money Trees and some nice sets on the higher tide through hoop throwers, where one could squeeze into the odd barrel.

This morning my Kiwi brothers left, the 2 fathers and sons, TK & Ware, Jamarl & Elliot. Was super fun (more…)

G-Land Surf was well worthy of having a rest from today. 2ft waves, Kongs not even breaking properly due to the swell angle, this was not a great day. I had a nice sleep in this morning, then after breakfast got a massage off our professional massage man Ketut, he did a full hour on my (more…)
