Its been a long time between drinks since I’ve been here again in G-Land, if 9 months can be classed as a long time? Everything seemed so familiar except I had forgotten so many of the things that make G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp so special. Like how good the food tasted on my taste buds, how friendly and accommodating all the staff here are, the great vibe amongst all the crew in camp, and the peaceful serenity of the jungle.

After two weeks in Bali, I came overland with 3 of my friends from Taranaki, NZ – my home town. I was in fact supposed to come on the fast boat this morning, but last night as my friends were jumping into the overland bus, I was awed at how flash this new bus was. Deluxe seating, spacious, good air con, and only 3 of my friends in there, so while everybody else went on the fast boat this morning, I jumped aboard the good old fashioned overland, keen as to try out the new bus! One sleeping pill, a nightshade, earplugs and travelling pillow later, and it was sunrise at Grajagan Harbour, and we were shortly on a speed boat shooting across the bay to camp. The overland speed boat now has our fast boats old engines – 3 x 200hp V6 engines – which we replaced on the fast boat with 3 x 250hp 4 stroke engines.

I always love bringing friends to G-Land so they can experience what is on offer here, and they were not disappointed. The surf a solid 3ft on the sets all day, or head high, with a clean offshore wind. Uncrowded and fun up Kongs, Fan Palms & upper Money Trees, there were waves for all. I didn’t even surf today as I was happy just cruising and settling back into surf guide mode. My friend Kahn from NZ was stoked on the waves after plenty of frustratingly crowded surfs at Ulu’s lately, while his girlfriend Sammy & her friend Danielle had a great time snorkeling. Looks like I’ll be here most of the time for the next few months so hope you enjoy my internet reports! Good to be back…

Jarred made it onto the fast-boat back to Bali this morning.  Giving it some thought, he’s probably at the top of the list…a list of people and the number of days spent out here in any one season.  GOOD FOR YOU JARRED!!!  After 6 months at G-Land, I’d imagine he’ll have some mixed feelings about leaving, but he seemed ready this morning.  Jalan Legian is there waiting for him.  As for me, all I can say is thanks for the opportunity bro.  I’m nowhere close to having mixed feelings about being here…even with the surf conditions being what they were on my first day.

Today we had onshore winds  and small, weak surf in (more…)

Today, middle of October, without a bang, comes my last G-Land Surf report for this year. I have spent the majority of 6 months here since May 1st, and what a great experience. Completely countless amounts of tubes, numerous mind-blowing ridiculously crazy barrels, perfect waves, overhead swells, super-fun days, heavy beatings, great food, peaceful sleeps, many new friends made… time well passed… good times!

Like I said, without a bang the waves were 2-3ft with an onshore (more…)

G-Land had some super fun Kongs waves through the afternoon. The surf was 3-4ft and really nice rides. It was a great warm up surf for my first day of this season as surf guide at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp

The water in the (more…)
