Sorry….forgot to write one up yesterday and by this point in time, I’ve forgotten pretty much what went down. I do remember that the surf was not too good and some of the guys surfed Kongs. Some, by the way, means not all 6 guests surfed.
ENJOY….

IT WAS A DAY NOT TO MISS if you were here at G-Land. Fortunately, all the guests got to surf. I didn’t once again. But… fortunate for me, I’m not bummed by it either… just truly stoked for the guests. They got that gem of a day…November 12th 2009 will be remembered by several.
I’ll have to trust the others about (more…)

I have to give credit to the organization… pretty sure it’s NOAA/NCEP’s OMB and affiliates… that exists by collecting data and processing that information into a usable model. Anything up to 2 days out seems to be fairly accurate, beyond that and too many events can happen to change the course of a surfer’s hope.
By noon, sets started to break at Kongs and any stresses from not surfing the past couple of days faded away. G-Land was (more…)

lionfish
Smallest day yet since I arrived 1 month ago. A few of the guys went for a surf, but I don’t think they were able to ride a wave for more than 20 yards. G-Land can go flat and tomorrow’s forecast is to go even flatter. But we still have good winds. A little south in it again, but dominantly from the east.
Cole went for a dive and speared a small Jack, the 3 Pomes (Saul-Myles-Spencer) and 2 new guests (Greg n Roger) watched a movie and had a surf, Warren went for 2 surfs I think, I saw a lionfish in the little pool off of 1st point, and Molly chased fish all day. A calm, restful day at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp.
It’ll be interesting to see how calm the ocean is tomorrow since today is one of the flattest I’ve ever seen.

It really amazes me how different the G-Land Surf conditions are from one day to the next. The early morning’s situation was not even close enough to wipe the sleep out of my eyes or head. However, by 11:00, sets were showing up as the tide came through its bottom…..but it was innnn_connnn_sissss_tent!
I ended up timing my surf opposite from (more…)

Relaxing is what today was all about. Most of today’s new guests went for a surf at some point in the day, but plenty of guests just lounged today at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp. Hanging in the hammock, reading a book, taking a nap, watching a movie, going for a walk, stretching…whatever felt right.
Early morning G-Land Surf conditions at 6:30 were pretty poor considering 0.4 meter low tide and weak swell. Max set size was 4 foot on the face (chest high) and heavily sectioned. By 11:00, I saw a few sets starting to run down the reef at lower Kongs and a few through Moneys. But it was more a hopeful indicator that the alleged swell was starting to fill in and not an enticer to go for a surf. The surf never really came up today at G-Land and that 11:00 pulse was probably the best of the day. People were of course still surfing throughout the day…
Last night was a Pool Comp night. The staff love really it! They’re the first to put in the buy-in. It was probably the best display of buleh playing and worst from the indos that I’ve ever seen. But in the end, Balinese Dewa claimed the pot on the same day that his deceased ancestors left Earth after a 10-day visit…the day of Kuningan. Read about it if your not already Hindu (and interested), it may make you massage your chin.

28 guests in Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp today after the change over. Feels really quiet and slow once there’s less than 30 staying here. Looking forward to the season’s end when there’s even less.
The G-Land Surf today was not unlike the camp’s feeling. Maybe 4 foot faces up at Kongs. Comments from the guests went something like “ahhh, good to get wet mate” ” keeping up the fitness” ” nice to do some turns” ”good first-time experience at G-Land” However, the winds were still proper dry season trades…and that is a very positive thing. After about 10 days of counter-trades late September/early October, it’s great to have consistent good winds.
Lots of boats coming out of Grajagan tonight. Maybe a good sign that tomorrow can be a good day to go fishing since I haven’t noticed them before today. A handful of octopi-hunting boats originating from the island of Madura are at kadang perahu (boat harbour) right now. I can only imagine that there’s no discretion to the octopi’s size in their take.

Change over of guests this morning (40 guests in the camp now) and I had a good lesson in patience with them. Impressively, the forecast materialized enough to make me want to run for my board…but I needed just a little patience. 8 foot @ 16 seconds…211 degrees…offshore by 10.
During my beachfront part of the tour, what I was watching (more…)

G-Land was pretty small this morning. An early offshore began at 8am, and Kongs was the call, with all the kids going out there, and plenty of other G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp guests keen to get a wave and try out their small wave hot-dogging.
