Not alot of great surf to report on team! Just thought I’d pop in and leave an update with you all, to kick off the new year. Speaking of which hope you all had a great Xmas and New Years, and have some good plans in the pipeline this year? I’ll be back in G-Land in May or June at this stage and hanging around for the rest of the season, its going to be great to get back on board the perfection train! :)

OK so on the swell front there is a really nice swell actually forecast for around the 16th, but with strong SW and W winds, and a rising windswell to cross it up some, it really won’t be happening in G-Land, except for down at 20/20’s I’d imagine there’d be some little ones to play on.

Weather wise there’ll be regular showers almost every day obviously being in the middle of the wet season that is expected.. There’s still a hardy skeleton crew keeping care of G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp to ensure its all in order for the 2010 season which is 1st March – Mid November.

I’m currently in Hawaii at the moment on the North Shore of Oahu, and theres certainly no shortage of big swells, hopefully this will mean many big swells in G-Land this season in this El Nino pattern??? Lets hope for big clean waves to get barreled on this year!!!

Aloha from Hawaii,

Jarred

I have to give credit to the organization… pretty sure it’s NOAA/NCEP’s OMB and affiliates… that exists by collecting data and processing that information into a usable model.  Anything up to 2 days out seems to be fairly accurate, beyond that and too many events can happen to change the course of a surfer’s hope.

By noon, sets started to break at Kongs and any stresses from not surfing the past couple of days faded away.  G-Land was (more…)

IT WAS FLAT!!!

2.5 feet/7 seconds/220 degrees and it was correct.

Maybe something to write about tomorrow considering the forecast.

Until then…

lionfish

lionfish

Smallest day yet since I arrived 1 month ago.  A few of the guys went for a surf, but I don’t think they were able to ride a wave for more than 20 yards.   G-Land can go flat and tomorrow’s forecast is to go even flatter.  But we still have good winds.  A little south in it again, but dominantly from the east.

Cole went for a dive and speared a small Jack, the 3 Pomes (Saul-Myles-Spencer) and 2 new guests (Greg n Roger) watched a movie and had a surf, Warren went for 2 surfs I think, I saw a lionfish in the little pool off of 1st point, and Molly chased fish all day.  A calm, restful day at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp.

It’ll be interesting to see how calm the ocean is tomorrow since today is one of the flattest I’ve ever seen.

These early morning low-tides have really set up the later part of the day to only get better.   A little more swell energy showed up today at G-Land…contra to what the forecast had predicted.  And this is always a good reminder not to get overly reliant on the swell models.  Money Trees was breaking more down-the-line than yesterday morning, but Kongs is and has been the staple on these retracting swell conditions.  Still, it was a nice size…about 5 to 8 foot on the face at midday and still offshore all day!

By the late afternoon, Moneys rarely had sets, but no one sitting down there either.  I was watching it from Kongs, hoping to get lured down there and enjoy it alone.  Kongs was quality fun, but it wasn’t that consistent (more…)

It was good to notice a change from yesterday in the G-Land Surf conditions early this morning.  It wasn’t drastic enough to run  back and get my board, but instead just gave me thoughts that things are moving in the positive direction.

The surf picked up at G-Land from 2-3 feet at dawn reaching (more…)

Ombak Bagus Lagi – Good waves again. G-Land Surf had an offshore wind caressing it first thing in the morning. Add to this 4-6ft sets and we had a long day of pumping waves at Money Trees, and apart from a 3pm rush of punters in the line-up it was mostly really uncrowded all day in (more…)
