G-LAND…small surf today…like yesterday basically.   The waves have been real clean and crisp, probably cause the wind has been perfect for the small size.  Baby Speedies today…about shoulder high and fun.  I saw one guy get a clean little tube, but otherwise, just racers down the line.

Money Trees was max about head high and clean, but a little too sloped to get the right amount of speed for the waves when they would section.  Still…there were some nice one’s running the reef sectionless, just had to get that one.  Not too many people in the water today and thinking about the water…the temp came back up just a little, making it perfect.  I figure Fan Palms up through Kongs on the right tide today would have been nice but I never really looked up there.

Went on a fish hunt today since Astro and Blacky both got two nice trevallies early on in the day.  Blacky’s was a perfect size and amazing colors.  Never seen a trevally with purple spanning the dorsal and ventral sides fading into a yellow and then the classice silver through the middle.  So Bondan and I headed out on low tide just before sunset and got one nice nameless (in english) fish that we just ate.  Supposedly this species eats sea weed and giving it a nice flavor.  Good fish for sashimi too, but we fried it up.

By 9:30 tonight, all the guests already in their bungalows and most likely for one reason only.  The blue line on the whiteboard jumps from 3 foot swell at 11 seconds to 9 foot swell at 17.  High hopes and I HOPE their filled.  I just came back from the beach to have a listen and I couldn’t hear anything.  But naturally, there’s still time until tomorrow….

G-Land folklore.  I feel bad to start rumors, but I didn’t know I was at the time.  The two Saffa’s girls didn’t see a Panther yesterday.  It was just a pig and the guys were playing with them.  Don’t know why they were playing with me, but that’s the end of that one.

G-Land still had a few fun waves today.  The swell backed off from yesterday a bit….really just getting up to just overhead, but it was pretty weak and slow.  I did see a few more powerful one’s come through, but in the end, just enough of something to get into the ocean for.

Went for a dive today looking for fish and really didn’t see too much.  Lots of upwelling going on so the visibility was bad…maybe like 15 feet max.  And the water is a bit cool from it as well.  I would think something like 77 degrees (25 degrees) so with the wind it’s cool for sure.  If you’re coming, bring some rubber.

G-Land was offshore and very small.. Not much more to say about the surf really.

It was a changeover day with a pretty even changeover and still just over 20 in the camp. Swell is meant to hit G-Land tomorrow so I was happy to relax and catch up on things I’ve been meaning to do.

A few decided to relax in the hammocks and read while others went fishing and spearing off the reef at G-Land and were rewarded with some nice fish.

May 21st 2010

G-Land was very inconsistent today, paddled out Kongs for a while and got some really fun ones. A guy I was surfing with seen a small white tip shark and I seen a small tiger shark so we were staying close together. There was alot of fish out there and birds feeding so we figured there was plenty of food for them and didn’t let it bother us too much.
The waves at money trees and speedies were the best and although inconsistent the waves were of good quality when they came with sets at a little overhead. Small and fun! Onshore came around lunch with a rain cloud that was just off the reef but was light and only lasted an hour. Other than that the winds were offshore and light for the majority of the day.
Big change over tomorrow and the boys are up for a drink tonight. It’s been pretty mellow all week so I may just join them. Kimbo and his group of lifeguards are coming so it will be good to see some familiar faces.

G-Land keeps on giving us all really good-fun waves.  The point was not lighting up like it can, but it sure was setting up some really long rides up the reef at Kong’s and Fan Palms.  Set’s were maxing at about 10 foot faces and pretty consistent.  Plenty of pulses that would last for 25 minutes and spread everyone out….but not too many people to spread out in the first place.

Fan Palms was real nice.  Overhead sets coming through and holding up a beautiful transition to carve on.  Ever so rarely, one would come through and barrel and those are always a great surprise since you’re not really expecting a barrel there.

I paddled out at the keyhole and went way up reef on a unridden 6’2″ fish that carries about the same amount of volume as an 8’6″ gun.  Great day to see how it felt and great board to ride down the line on a few waves that ran for 400 yards.   Not much effort to make it through those flatter sections.

Wind was good today once again.  Still giving thanks for that!!!

G-Land on April 17th 2010

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

G-Land went back to strong onshore’s all day.  H was up at 5:30, saying the wind was already on at that time.  I’d say there was probably no more than 6 people that tried to surf throughout the day.  A group headed down into the bay to try Tigertracks and said it was alright, but still pretty bumpy down there.

G-Land had a high of 2.7 meters and there were more than a handful of Hawaiians and Japanese spread out, casting straight off the beach.  It was fun watching them, riding on the hopeful feeling that something would bite.  Loads of bait fish jumping out of the incoming lure’s way.  In the end, only one small krapu (reef fish) was reeled in and passed off to the staff.

I spent plenty of time today in the bale’s out front, hoping to see a switch in the wind.  By 14:30, the wind backed right off and it was looking postive.  By 15:30, the wind came on stronger than before.  Everyone, including me, seemed really positive…talking lot’s of story and just enjoying the cooling wind cause it’s been pretty hot without it the past two days.

It’s nice to see that the guests weren’t going negative cause it’s possible.  They all seem to have a good approach to being here and that’s probably why they’ve also been a good group to surf with the past few days!

Hoping for a good looking morning tomorrow!!!

lionfish

lionfish

Smallest day yet since I arrived 1 month ago.  A few of the guys went for a surf, but I don’t think they were able to ride a wave for more than 20 yards.   G-Land can go flat and tomorrow’s forecast is to go even flatter.  But we still have good winds.  A little south in it again, but dominantly from the east.

Cole went for a dive and speared a small Jack, the 3 Pomes (Saul-Myles-Spencer) and 2 new guests (Greg n Roger) watched a movie and had a surf, Warren went for 2 surfs I think, I saw a lionfish in the little pool off of 1st point, and Molly chased fish all day.  A calm, restful day at Bobby’s G-Land Surf Camp.

It’ll be interesting to see how calm the ocean is tomorrow since today is one of the flattest I’ve ever seen.

G-Land completely fooled me today. I got up at 5am (I much prefer to sleep in) thinking I was gonna score Speedies real good, and for the first time in about a week the wind was an ugly sideshore coming up the face. Then I paddled out at 7:30 expecting a change, and about 8:30 it changed – to a straight onshore! What a bummer, as Launching Pad was (more…)

G-Land proved today once again to mystify it’s internet prediction. With a 2ft junk day expected, it infact had some grunty 3-4ft sets rattling down the reef. There were (more…)
