I woke up with the strong hope that today would be the day I surfed again.  Early morning conditions were promising, just needed the offshores to start up.  Fan Palms was about 4 to 6 foot (faces) and rare sets were making it down into Moneys.  I continued to feel positive that today I would remember what riding a surfboard was like…haven’t stood on one since November the 8th.

IT WAS A DAY NOT TO MISS if you were here at G-Land.  Fortunately, all the guests got to surf. I didn’t once again.  But… fortunate for me, I’m not bummed by it either… just truly stoked for the guests.  They got that gem of a day…November 12th 2009 will be remembered by several.

I’ll have to trust the others about (more…)

I have to give credit to the organization… pretty sure it’s NOAA/NCEP’s OMB and affiliates… that exists by collecting data and processing that information into a usable model.  Anything up to 2 days out seems to be fairly accurate, beyond that and too many events can happen to change the course of a surfer’s hope.

By noon, sets started to break at Kongs and any stresses from not surfing the past couple of days faded away.  G-Land was (more…)

Some degree of physiological change happened to me today.  We’ve been witness to the cliche of “good things come in 3,” and good things meaning quality G-Land Surf…. 3 referring to our 3rd straight day of it!   But even with such conditions, all I did was sleep.  Maybe I overdosed from the past 2 days, or some little critter bit me.  The billiard comp from last night didn’t go that late, but that probably helped.  Still, I’m not sure why I was half-dead???

Early morning conditions looked great, but I wanted to time a session with fewer people.  Fewer… like surfing alone or (more…)

G-Land had fun waves today, but today pretty much rounded off the worst September in memory! In saying that there was waves every day to be had, not too crowded, and constantly increasing water temperatures, as well as no shortage in wave height. Just not so many days with good quality barrels. I have a good feeling October is going to be nice with good winds and end the season with a bang!

G-Land Surf was 4-5ft up at Kongs and Fan Palms, (more…)

G-Land still had nice size today. First off I thought it was 2-3ft. But then upon reaching the keyhole after breakfast, I seen solid 4ft sets coming through Kongs. Quite powerful, and my 6ft board was a touch too small on the sets. The wind was like a WNW sea breeze, so a bit bumpy, but really fun rides, and my goodness the water was like a bath!! Just wore boardies and it was sweeeettttt as!

The wind went to a WSW later in the day, which made the faces (more…)

G-Land Surf had a slight increase in swell today, with 3-4ft sets and the rogue 5ft set. Plenty of crew surfed early morning and late morning, and I joined in the early afternoon shift on Fan Palms. The surf wasn’t real perfect, but it was pretty fun, with some real whackable & rippable walls. Infact one guest just told me he had his best surf today out of his whole stay! So there you go.

2 days ago I crashed my motorcycle in the muddy (more…)

G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp had a variety of guests arrive this morning on a special trip. 2 Japanese fathers with a combined total of 3 young teenage boys ready to sample G-Land for their first time and see what their Dads had been raving about for years. And a couple, as well as a couple of guys travelling solo. Yesterday 2 Australian fathers arrived who had a young teenage son each here for their first time as well, ready to take it on!

G-Land Surf was a good warm up size for the (more…)

A full house today in G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp. 70ish guests after changeover this morning, but still the surf wasn’t even crowded, probably because the other 2 camps do not have many guests. Upon first check of the surf this morning at 7am, the surf was 2-3ft and looking like a rest day in preparation for the forecast swell tomorrow. Then at 10:30am when I was taking new guests on Orienation Tour (after showing them my whiteboard which said surf a 6ft board for the 2-3ft surf today) we see a macking 6ft double overhead set come through!! Wow, the swell came super early for once! So now on my Tour I talk about travel insurance and why people should have it, and after that speech a few people who didn’t have it already went online and bought some. Wise move in Indonesia and especially G-Land.

So about 12pm I paddled out in the G-Land Surf on my (more…)

A slight bump in the swell today saw sets in the 3-4ft range all day today, with slightly bigger ones before dark. A nice offshore started up by 9am and blew all day too.
