G-Land on April 25th 2010

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

G-Land change over today.  Guests out….guests in….and we’re hosting a total of 37 of them after the switch.  I said goodbye to a good crew of guests.

G-Land was blue skies and had that atmospheric haze concealing the volcanoes, mimicking a standard dry-season appearance.  Come on!  Please come on…start blowing offshore.  We’ve had plenty of swell…nothing too sizable on a consistent basis, but plenty of fun days.  Plenty of days that with the offshore, well…there would be barrels.

Surf was about 5-7 foot faces and mostly focusing on Kongs.   Money Trees was breaking and a few sets were breaking on inside Launching Pads, but not too many.  I had a session that went in two radically different directions.  The first half was me and only me…surfing Ledge/Money’s and then Inside Launching Pad getting plenty of smooth faced waves.  The second half was me and 2 handfuls surfing blown out (from the N wind, aka. “Devil Wind” by some) Ledge/Money’s until dusk cause we were waiting for a few decent waves that never came.

Chicken BBQ for dinner!!!

HAPPY EASTER — April 4th 2010

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

G-Land finally pulled in some swell today…as forecasted.  In fact, the forecast was accurate on both the swell and wind.  The sets were 8-10 foot (faces) and even though the wind was predominantly out of the NNW, it never created enough  shearing to break-up the wave line.  It was the first day in about 1 week that traveling 200 yards down the line happened frequently.  We got to feel just a little bit of this place’s special character again…G-Land.

Money Trees was collecting most of the swell, but if I was so fortunate to be out in the water around 10:00, I would have been the sole surfer for a Fang session…when it breaks like mini Launching Pads/Speedies.  But in being real with what I saw, no offshore = no barrels.  But the form was still looking nice.

By sunset, sets were still running down the point and at dusk, I was able to count 5 waves spoking around Fan Palms through Money Trees.  I’m excited to wake up this next morning and hopefully see the same scenario unraveling.

November 14th 2009

The fun, 3-day run came to an end….although….guys were still going surfing.  G-Land almost always has something to ride, especially considering where most of us come from.  Maybe if you were from another equatorial country would you not surf on these days.   But, for Indonesia’s standards, it was small…and when it’s small here, there’s only one place to go.  Guys were saying that Kongs was fun, still with some head-high waves but a little weak.  I would easily take the bet that surfing alone up there compensated for the lack of power and/or size.
