G-Land dropped down in size today, sets still breaking on the bombie but not as big or wild. Money Trees was about 4-5 foot through the high tide and there was alot of punters on it. Plenty of current coming down the reef from the sweepy west swell, coupled with a crowd and not many barrels, made it not the best of surfs for G-Land. But still some well overhead walls with some barrels and an offshore wind. Actually some waves were 6ft (double overhead).

I think my mate Sharky was the most stoked today, after doing some yoga he went down to 20/20s for the afternoon and had his best surf yet. Still head high on the sets, there was plenty of fun to be had down there.

Just to be precise, the crowd was there from about 11am to 1pm. Around 2pm I was out with just 4 other people and the waves got even better. All morning there was waves and nobody was out. Late in the day I counted 4 out. So… still empty line-ups if you time it right.

G-Land was big today.  A new swell came in and I could hear it clearly from my room when I woke up at 6:30.  The surf got up to solid 16 foot faces around 12:30 and as the tide dropped enough to keep the ocean out of the lagoon, a strong current was sweeping down the reef.

2.4 meter high tide at 9:00 and most everyone in the jungle seemed to be out at Launching Pad and Speedies.  We never really got the offshore today and with the new swell being quite raw, most of the waves were OK.  Only a couple handful would connect into Speedies.  But there were some heavy barrels running through Speedies….just had to be in the right position to get it.

After 1:00 and not one person was out front.  Heavy, large collapsing sections and shifty peaks at Money Trees was good enough reason.  The Bombora was lighty breaking at high tide and by low tide, some massive waves were heaving over and running almost straight into Money’s.

A lot of people went down to 20/20′s and Tigertracks, coming back with good news of head high waves, real clean and real fun.  I saw Chicken’s and it was on as well.  Basically, plenty of swell to run down the entire reef and into the Bay.

Possibly tomorrow???

Violated!!! This is what happened to me in my lunch time surf at Money Trees today in G-Land. 6-8ft chunky sets coming in with a not quite right Trade blowing a bit south, and with these non-stop sets breaking up Kongs & Fan Palm (which you couldn’t surf because of the current) creating a gay current all day running down the entire point. Despite that, there was the odd sick one that would offer a big barrel. Late morning I witnessed a bit of the Dr Phil Chapman & Matt Doebell show, as they scored a few sick tubes each.

Back to my G-Land Surf violation, I finally (more…)

G-Land had a thick mist over the line-up for the first few hours of the morning, and while it sounded big and loud, I could not quite tell. Once the fog lifted mid morning I realised it was perhaps the biggest swell I’ve seen here since 2007! Too big for here today really. It was washing through, the ocean was moving sideways across the reef, huge swells unloading on the bombie. I heard the Rip Curl Padang Padang International Invite comp ran today in 6-8ft pumping waves. Jamie O’Brien won.

G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp sent back to Bali a small crew of guests and the kiteboarders at 5am this morning, the wind didn’t come up till 8am, so likely they had a super smooth trip back on our fast boat :) Out in front of the camp there was still 4-6ft sets rolling through in the G-Land Surf.

G-Land was still (more…)

As predicted, we all woke up too an active ocean. G-Land Surf was solid, the Bombie had some big sets on the low tide (infact all day long it had some big sets), and the offshore soon followed about 9am, helping clean up the 6-8ft swell. There was even the odd rogue 10ft set that came through… (more…)
