G-Land ended up being o.k today. The onshore seemed to be picking up so we organized a group of 10 people to check out reverse G where the wind should have been offshore judging by the conditions and the forecast we had. Loaded the boat full of boards, food, water and some beers for the ride home of course. After a 45 minute boat ride it was still onshore even though it was facing the opposite direction. The swell didn’t seem to be hitting it right either so we just ended up coming back.

We were back by 10:00am and there were still 2 beers drank so the spirits were still high. Most of the crew jumped out of the boat straight into the lineup and the rest of us followed soon after. The wind dropped off and swung offshore but stayed really calm most of the day. It was a little inconsistent but everybody got some good ones at money trees that were a little overhead and even some fun sized smaller ones down launching pads. I seen a few nice barrels and even managed to tuck into a couple as well.

Great to be back at G-Land and looking forward to spending some time here.

G-land on April 23rd 2010

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

G-Land experiences just expanded for me today.  For me and 14 other guests. Everything was set last night to make an adventurous day of April 23rd, 2010.  I’ve been considering making the decision for the past 3 weeks, trying to get a substantial degree of confidence to set off and check out the east side of the Blambangan Peninsula…. Reverse G!

The conditions were right.  There was still swell (about 6-10 foot faces at Money Trees), the morning winds were keeping me confident in my decision, and the group was positive and open to whatever would happen.  When we entered the reef pass after about 1 hour of cruising and finally beached the boat, there was only one decision remaining.  Surf the Left or surf the Right.  We all took the dingy back out the pass and situated ourselves on the Right.

Plenty of sets for all of us.  This particular reef pass contour took the swell, stood it up on a well defined peak and set up a long, sloping wave face for about 100 yards…then…readjusted the swell to horseshoe on the inside, wall up and throw over if it was the right one.  It subtly reminded me of a similar set up on this side of the peninsula that I’m sitting on right now.  But I don’t want to make too much of a comparison to G-Land proper because this is a very difficult place to match up to.

Many thanks to Bobby for his generosity and willingness to ensure that his guests are enjoying themselves.

Surf out front was claimed to be really fun for a couple of hours when the wind was down.  Still hitting Money Trees and still lining up a few barrels.

G-Land on April 14th 2010

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

G-Land this morning, started off by continuing the beautiful conditions from yesterday.  In writing that, there’s naturally going to be a “but.”  But by 2:00, the onshore winds came on quick and strong.  I made the wrong decision to wait for an after lunch until dusk session.

Early morning until early afternoon was really clean.  I kept seeing one specific guy repeatedly getting tubes…not too long gone, but still in the right position.  Really glassy, 6-10 foot faces breaking along the entire reef.  But very inconsistent.  Regular 40-minute lulls throughout the better part of the day.  The forecast showed a fading swell and that’s what we were getting.

G-Land forecast for the next few days looks like it has the potential to be really fun.  The wind seems to be the main factor that will determine the quality…but it almost always is.  No rain today!!!

November 13th 2009

3rd consecutive day of quality G-Land Surf.  Backed-off just a bit from yesterday, but “only a bit.”  Every day that passes makes me more appreciative for the conditions that we’re getting.  There will be that day…probably soon…where I’ll commit to the thought “yeah, the season has switched.”  It’s getting hotter, more humid, a few light rains at night, more atmospheric moisture hanging above Grajagan Bay, the monsoon season started off the Philippines, BUT… the offshores are still happening.  And that needs to change so I can easily “commit to that thought!”
