G-Land was very relaxing today. A few people took their boards for a paddle to beat the bordem and a few were giving money to the local ladies and getting massages relaxing down the beach.

I did a yoga session this morning at Joyo’s camp to stretch my sore muscles out. There is alot of paddling in G-Land and it is nice to have a stretch now and again.

After lunch I went fishing up to the key hole way up past Kongs. It took us about an hour to get there and none of us got any fish. The fishing in G-Land has been a little average this season, the spear fishermen have been doing the best. I will have to walk up there again and take some photos. The coal barge has split in two and the coal is all over the beach. It’s such a big barge and it’s just sitting high and dry on the reef at low tide.

G-Land – May 30th 2010

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

G-Land was another inconsistent day. Speedies was breaking and there were good waves to be had up and down the reef. The swell dropped a bit through the day and was lucky to be 3 foot by sunset. The trade winds picked up again so hopefully that’s the start of the season pattern. Managed to dry a few things out.

Creased my board today on the first wave but you get that here in G-Land..

Lot’s of work is getting done here at Bobby’s. We now have wifi down the beach and all our computers have been reprogrammed and some replaced with new ones. There is a tower being built for Quiksilver to film from. Hopefully G-Land picks up tomorrow with a new pulse in the swell that is predicted

G-Land on May 1st 2010

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Alright!!!  G-Land had it’s first proper day of offshore wind.  Felt like a true dry-season day.  Walked up to the beach and saw some quality looking waves peeling down the reef in front at Moneys.  Not big…maybe 6 foot face, but the top’s were getting pulled right off…sending up a decent plume.

Kong’s was again the better part of the reef to be at today.  Fan Palms/Ledge was collecting some nice set’s as well, but the consistency was better up the reef.  Inside Launching Pads was lining up a bit too, but today was pretty inconsistent no matter what part of the reef you chose to surf and so anywhere but Kongs was a decent test of patience.

Surf up at Kongs was fun.  The biggest sets were getting up to 8 foot on the face…definitely some really nice waves running the reef for up to 400 yards if you were a lucky one.  Barrels coming through as well.  I was surprised how many waves went hollow up there today.  And Ledge was definitely causing some sets to fold over really well.  The offshore wind makes such a big difference!!!

G-Land on April 22nd 2010

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

G-Land had some big waves today.  The Bommie was breaking pretty regularly and Money Trees was the best section to sit on.  10-16 foot faces with double-ups on the take-off really made it exciting.  Yesterday and today have been undoubtedly rejuvenating, clearing up any lingering thoughts of the recent pasts average conditions.

The wind came up at about 14:00 from the W and never really backed off.  I just came back from the beach 5 minutes ago (21:00)  and it’s blowing pretty strong from the N.  So….. I am really thankful that I paddled out at around 10:00.  I followed the lead of 2 other guys, and we got some nice, long, walls for about 45 minutes before the others made it out.  No real barrels…just to paint an honest picture, but still some powerful one’s.  It was lacking that last condition…the offshore wind…   My goodness!  There could have been some massive tunnels today.

G-Land
report for the day….

G-Land on April 20th 2010

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

G-Land…again…got drenched by the clouds.  The early morning was fairly calm, just a light onshore, but another rain squall came through at about 10:00 and gave us a thorough soaking.  Surf was OK.  The rain kept the wind speed down and so the wave face’s stayed clean enough to let a few guys get some decent length rides.  Only a few were lining up.

Surf was about 6-8 foot faces focusing on Fan Palm and Ledge/Money’s.  Not much else happening anywhere else on the reef.  222 degrees!   The surf stayed consistent through the day, but the session during the rain squall was the best.  Sitting out in the water and looking back at the land is beautiful right now.  All the rain can be challenging to endure, but the jungle is amazingly green!

First suture job today.  Puma threaded 6 stitches into the palm of an unfortunate guest.  Being maybe a little to excited to go spearfishing, Jeremy leveled himself when he stepped off the beach and onto the reef.  That fringe area is so slick, in fact many places on the reef are really slick right now.  There’s always something to be aware of here at G-Land

G-Land on April 17th 2010

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

G-Land went back to strong onshore’s all day.  H was up at 5:30, saying the wind was already on at that time.  I’d say there was probably no more than 6 people that tried to surf throughout the day.  A group headed down into the bay to try Tigertracks and said it was alright, but still pretty bumpy down there.

G-Land had a high of 2.7 meters and there were more than a handful of Hawaiians and Japanese spread out, casting straight off the beach.  It was fun watching them, riding on the hopeful feeling that something would bite.  Loads of bait fish jumping out of the incoming lure’s way.  In the end, only one small krapu (reef fish) was reeled in and passed off to the staff.

I spent plenty of time today in the bale’s out front, hoping to see a switch in the wind.  By 14:30, the wind backed right off and it was looking postive.  By 15:30, the wind came on stronger than before.  Everyone, including me, seemed really positive…talking lot’s of story and just enjoying the cooling wind cause it’s been pretty hot without it the past two days.

It’s nice to see that the guests weren’t going negative cause it’s possible.  They all seem to have a good approach to being here and that’s probably why they’ve also been a good group to surf with the past few days!

Hoping for a good looking morning tomorrow!!!

G-Land on March 30th 2010

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

G-Land woke me up this morning with the beautiful sound of a new swell.  It was the first time since I arrived that my walk up to the beach was overly exciting.  I wish I didn’t have to write this, but from early morning on through sunset, the wind was the only element out of sync for a high quality day to happen at G-Land.

G-Land
could have been epic.  Full moon, strong south swell about 205 degrees, and very few surfers in the jungle.  I watched Speedies draw the lumped up swell through the high tide, the Ledge receive some explosive peaks at the tides opposite end, Money Trees handle everything, and about 5 Bombora sets break in the later afternoon.  It was difficult to see everything have the potential to be working all in one day, but IT DIDN’T.  And that was  because one element, the proper wind, was missing.

By 4:30, a powerful storm front came across Grajagan Bay and brought with it a booming thunderstorm and dropped a solid amount of rain.  It was refreshing to sit under the 2 new bale’s out front and watch, feel, and smell the storm go passed us.

Hoping for a more in sync day tomorrow.
Until then….MICHAEL

November 7th 2009

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

These early morning low-tides have really set up the later part of the day to only get better.   A little more swell energy showed up today at G-Land…contra to what the forecast had predicted.  And this is always a good reminder not to get overly reliant on the swell models.  Money Trees was breaking more down-the-line than yesterday morning, but Kongs is and has been the staple on these retracting swell conditions.  Still, it was a nice size…about 5 to 8 foot on the face at midday and still offshore all day!

By the late afternoon, Moneys rarely had sets, but no one sitting down there either.  I was watching it from Kongs, hoping to get lured down there and enjoy it alone.  Kongs was quality fun, but it wasn’t that consistent (more…)

September 19th 2009

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

G-Land Surf actually had the best waves early in the morning, early as, light offshore, 3-5ft and hardly anybody out. The rest of the day the winds played up with a quick sea breeze, then a south breeze, and then just light winds in the afternoon and slightly wobbly conditions. G-Land local Kiki sits next to me right now at the beach and predicts a good offshore tomorrow, let’s hope his local knowledge comes through.

G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp had a bunch of new (more…)

August 19th 2009

Friday, August 21st, 2009

G-Land was 3-4ft today with the occassional slightly bigger set. Offshores blew from early in the morning through the day, and there were plenty of fun waves for everybody. Fabio reckons he surfed pumping Money Trees on the low tide with just 3 people out… it sure is one helluva uncrowded August!

Thankfully not being hungover from partying last night, but wanting to freshen up, I went to Padma St for a surf, and had some fun 1-2ft waves and enjoyed the fresh air and hung at the beach for awhile also.

Back to G-Land Bobby’s Surf Camp tomorrow, good swell forecast on Friday, so fingers crossed for some pumping surf!
