barrels

G-Land was super fun today. The swell direction was really nice and lining up well. The barrels were nice and hollow. Especially through the fang area of money trees! I actually got the best barrel of my trip today. It was a nice long one and was very wide open.

All four camps in G-Land have had alot leave and we are back down to thin numbers so everyone is getting plenty of waves. The last few weeks have been really good however it has been rather crowded.

Narchi left G-land today and I will be gone in the next week or so. Jarred will be back to take over soon.

G-Land continued to give us all real nice waves through the entire day.  Early morning conditions were nice…offshore, clean, and lined up.  Strangely surprising how many early mornings have started out clean.  Money Trees was really refined and running down the reef for a few hundred yards, staying hollow and fast.  Surf was about 8-10 foot faces with those random rogue sets getting up to 12 foot.

Launching Pad was real distinct, even setting up some barrels off the peak where the past 2 days didn’t come close to throwing out at all.  Speedies was a different character entirely.  Real fast and most of them wouldn’t let people out….coming in real straight on the reef.  But still some really beautiful and make-able waves spinning down the line.

And like yesterday, once the tide dropped too low for Speedies, Money Trees was the section to be on.  Really though…Money’s was good all day.  Fan Palms was lining up too.  Great day to be out here.

G-Land was big today.  A new swell came in and I could hear it clearly from my room when I woke up at 6:30.  The surf got up to solid 16 foot faces around 12:30 and as the tide dropped enough to keep the ocean out of the lagoon, a strong current was sweeping down the reef.

2.4 meter high tide at 9:00 and most everyone in the jungle seemed to be out at Launching Pad and Speedies.  We never really got the offshore today and with the new swell being quite raw, most of the waves were OK.  Only a couple handful would connect into Speedies.  But there were some heavy barrels running through Speedies….just had to be in the right position to get it.

After 1:00 and not one person was out front.  Heavy, large collapsing sections and shifty peaks at Money Trees was good enough reason.  The Bombora was lighty breaking at high tide and by low tide, some massive waves were heaving over and running almost straight into Money’s.

A lot of people went down to 20/20′s and Tigertracks, coming back with good news of head high waves, real clean and real fun.  I saw Chicken’s and it was on as well.  Basically, plenty of swell to run down the entire reef and into the Bay.

Possibly tomorrow???

G-Land went a bit schizophrenic today…or maybe I just went schizo from it.  Swell was pretty small and conditions not so good in the early morning. Surf was small, bumpy and the swell lines were broken up.  But by 11:00, really nice sets were breaking through Money Trees, setting up some long, hollow sections.  Waves were about 6-8 foot faces and wind stayed real calm.  Seemed like early signs of this supposed big swell were possibly showing their presence.

Come about 2:00 and the surf backed right off.  Maybe just because of the low tide.  Maybe cause of some other reason.  But a light offshore started up at the same time and it seemed like a surf after the 3 o’clock turn of the tide would be worth it….considering what was happening just a couple of hours ago.

Paddled out into the most inconsistent surf, laden with massive clumps of jellyfish congregating from Fan Palms right up through Kongs.  Hard trade off since the surf was best up there and Money Trees really only had just a few waves.  Jellyfish or really long waits???

But to keep things positive, I did see two handfuls of really nice waves come through Kongs and Fan Palms.  Even a few high-line barrels that let the guys back out onto the face.

G-Land wasn’t quite as good as yesterday however there were still some really good waves all up and down the reef. It was 2-3 ft and very clean but a little bit of a wobble on it and a little sectiony. There were alot of barrels and some really smackable walls.
All the Brasilians are fired up for the soccer game tonight and the Aussies are already watching the A.F.L. Everybody has feasted on such a good feed once again. Gotta love the buffet night!
There are 19 people leaving Bobby’s and 18 arriving tomorrow so the crowd in G-Land will be good for another few days. There is no bump in the swell until the 11th so let’s hope the forecast is wrong.

G-Land picked up with the tide today. There were 6 ft sets at high tide. Unfortunately it went out with the tide and was lucky to be 3ft by this afternoon. The direction seemed alot better in the morning and swung a little too west by the afternoon also.
Even though G-Land only brang us a short burst of energy it was still great to surf and there were still alot of great waves. Speedies was even on for a little while, small down that end of the reef but still some fun little barrels.

We now have forty five people staying here at Bobby’s in G-Land but the other camps are still pretty empty. Overall the lineup is still pretty mellow and there were plenty of waves for everyone.

G-Land backed off today but the swell cleaned up! It was 6ft in the morning and 4 ft by the afternoon.

It was very consistent and the offshore was perfect direction for G-Land to really open up . There were so many barrels and it wasn’t rare to get 2 on 1 wave. Had a really fun afternoon!

A guy from Torquay told me it was the best surf he’d ever had hands down! It ‘s his first trip to G-Land and he’s already talking about coming back next year! Another happy guest at Bobby’s =)

G-Land showed some nice waves with good barrels today. The sets were still 6ft but it dropped off through the day and there were some long waits between the sets. The chopper was flying over and filming most of the afternoon.

Bobby is in G-Land so it’s good to see him.

The G-Land full moon party is in swing right now and everyone is getting up and having a dance. It looks like the crew will be having a late night.

G-Land started pulsing early. There were 8ft sets and the level of surfing was phenomenal. The ledge was really fun later in the day on low tide and everyone was getting lots of barrels.

The swell didn’t really hit speedies but money trees was producing some nice ledgey take offs with good size barrels. Kongs was looking really fun too. The crowd here at G-Land has been very minimal with no more than 40 people in the water at once.

The top photo above is of me pulling into Money trees. It’s my birthday so was after a good barrel even the pros were here. The photo below is of the remote control chopper being used for filming and photos here in G-Land.

G-Land looked like it was going to drop off off today but it  just got a little inconsistent before low tide. It pulsed all arvo with the tide coming in and in the last 2 hours it was looking really good! Not used to seeing so many barrels being made here. The boys were disappearing inside of them and coming out after you thought they’d be gone.

The chopper was coming from Air Bali yesterday but they blew an oil hose and it was spraying all over the engine so they had to emergency land it and fix it. It got to G-Land this afternoon and they had to emergency land it today aswell. The drive shaft is blown so they have to drive into town and get it fixed again.

The energy is wild here after such good waves today here in G-Land. Everyone is stoked! As you would be on a paid for trip with good waves.
